Preamble: I suggest downloading a better unpacker than the windows built-in one. 7zip and WinRAR are generally considered good choices.
First off, delete both package.nw files (as I can't tell which is which) and pull all the files and folders from the
Glassix Patch 1.0.1 to 1.0.2 folder out and drop them into the main game folder.IF IT ASKS, LET IT OVERWRITE.
This should create a 1.0.2 compatible package.nw file. I cannot overstate how important the overwrite is, though.
Now, install the Hotfix the same way and LET IT OVERWRITE AGAIN. DO NOT LET IT MAKE COPIES.
Something easier you could try:
Delete
package.nw and rename package (2).nw to package.nw.There are no guarantees with this method. You might enounter missing images and errors.
The long method I described above is far more reliable.
Aside from pictures, I cannot make this any simpler to understand.

when i use the application file, nothing happens when i try to open it. would anyone know why this might be caused or how to fix it?

As far as I know the game will not run, no matter what, on Windows XP.
The directory structure leading to the game folder cannot contain special characters (such as é).
Your security software might be intercepting it - the game does connect out to check version number against what's on the server. It might be false-flagging it as a suspicious execution. This interaction can be blocked without repercussions.
The game cannot be anywhere system-critical (System, System32, Windows, Program Files). Make a folder somewhere else (heck, even put one on the desktop) that you full control over.
If all else fails, try running with Administrator Rights in compatibility mode for Windows 7 / 8.1 / 10 in case you're on Win 11.
I can't actually think of anything else that might be preventing the game from running.

well, there are no special character in the folder, I don't see little blue box telling me it blocked the file from running due to an unknown publisher, if that's what you mean, I've tried running as administrator, and I've tried in 'Run programs made for previous versions of windows', but nothing seems to be working. i've also checked it isn't just the file from this link being corrupted or smt, cause i've tried downloading from itch.io aswell, and still it just doesn't run.

I'm going to repeat what dalzomo said one post above yours.
How deep is it buried? It could also be that the path is just too long.
Try making a folder on the desktop and unzip the entire game into THAT folder.
Don't just copy the .zip file. It has to be unpacked to run properly.
A first load can take a little while, depending on your hardware.
Posession is available at Lily Level 4 only. Costs 2000.

it's not deep at all. the only folder it's in is downloads. and yes, i've unzipped it

I'm going to assume all the game files are in their own folder (eg: Downloads/Glassix) and that you meet or exceed the minimum requirements (this game could conceivably run on a bag of potatos):
Windows 7 / 8 / 8.1 / 10 (game does not support Win XP, don't know about 11)
512MB RAM
1Ghz CPU
Latest drivers for your graphics card
If all of this doesn't work, I really don't know what you can do except for flagging down Daedolon about it.
Is there any sort of fan mod to run this on a Mac? Or do I need to go through Wine? I tried this many years ago but it was pretty rocky...

This is a node.js based game that uses SBPR for the characters.
This was made for Windows and there may be better alternatives than WINE but you might need knowledge of Node.js and JavaScript.

Is it normal for there to be a several second delay when moving between locations/opening the map? It's minor, but becomes a little annoying after a while.
That is configurable. IIRC it's called transition speed or something like that
