Could be wrong but I think if you use the hint system it disables that reward. It could also be that after a certain point in the story the locations get refreshed with new hidden stuff.

I already said that the 0.4.9 had problems and that we should not leak it too early.
The 0.4.91 version fixes the problem

Right after getting the MP3 Player, I'm not being able to sleep. I click on the bed, and nothing happens. No options show up.
This seems odd but with the mp3 player in your inventory try going to the park at night.

The part where the guide says he wants music?
First check your room for it and surprise it's not there.
Follow the hint to ask your sister about it.
Afterwards ask your mom about it.
Pick it up off your bed.
Then go to the park and give it to him.

Could ya try to not use so many free ifs? This is personal validation on why the game runs so poorly in comparison to other renpy titles; if you're checking where in the story you are, maybe call a function (or whatever renpy changes it from python). Ask for things and check progress only when needed, at least "label" events instead of checking every time you load the room.
They included this functionality for a reason...
