Just for information, there is a compression request thread for that, and it's being worked on . As said, it's monstrous, so may take a bit.
Is the file size so large because there's a lot of content or because the images are at unnecessarily massive resolutions?

I went back through (used the search bar to search the thread) the last 2 versions were both around 8GB, I remember playing this at one point or another (Clowns scare me, the one in the white car in screenshot ha) and seemed like lots of content. But how much new in this one if you've played it before, no clue.
The compressed versions come out to 800MB or less, the last 2 have anyway.
Think you got a bit of both to your question.

I've never played before so I was speaking more in terms of total game, not just recently added content. Not really asking about/for compressed versions since file size in general doesn't annoy me. I have a decent connection and plenty of space, I just don't like wasting time downloading huge files only to find out they're essentially 30 minutes of mediocre content with super ugly 4k res (exaggeration) images. Thanks for taking the time to answer, though.
