What would be funny for the MC is if Tanya got her degree as a schedule planner and she was the one that ultimately gets to plan his days out. I think it would be funny for her to plan out which of the girls he gets to spend the day with but making enough time for her and Anne. There's a tiny possibility (that we hang tightly on) that the sister, Melissa, may not have died in the plane crash. MB trolls us with it, never truly denying nor confirming. It's really not a BIG chance, but the possibility is enough.

Hinting at something doesn't change it's status from unknown. Red herrings are a big part of writing, so until the identity is confirmed, it is best to state unknown and possibly supply a footnote with speculation.
