Kinda wish they had taken a trip on a ship aka Gilagan's Island comes to mind.
A plane crash is not easy to survive, only parachutes come to mind.
Stranded on a remote Island with no way to scape or returning home.
They spend many years trying to build a boat or something to get them home.
Something to return to the side of their loved ones.
(Notice I didn't even mention Thomas and why he wasn't there with them at the time in question)
Just about when they were about to give up hope, a ship passes by the Island.
They were looking for provisions, food and water.
The family felt a sign of relief, after so many years, they were finaly being rescued, or so they thought.
