The updates on this are short. There is much criticism around for that.
I for one have the impression, Quonix wants to tell a story. So there is the element of sex, but it is not intended to be a romp/slideshow, but sex wrapped up and backed up by storytelling.
While that one is a little rough and I get the impression, that it is that way, so you get enough sexy time despite the small updates and/or because of the storytelling skill/requirement, it is there and it seems to be less missing incentive, but what fits the current point of time in the story that dictates what there is in sexy time.
Just mindlessly adding sex encounters with the family members wouldn't be what this game is set up to be anymore.
While I actually support Quonix, I'm not so invested, that I have a complete image of his situation.
(So if my perception is wrong, please tell me, everyone.)
The updates being small and this being a general trend have come up several times now though.
(So I just picked your post ShiroOkami2 , because it was the latest)
Different than other games, this one is not only pretty consistent with updates that aren't bi-yearly.
If I remember right, the update size is too.
As far as I know, Quonix has no team and does this in his free time. This means, there is only that much he can do to increase his output without going full-time or expanding.
Right now his Patreon is at ~2200€ a month. Assuming no failed credit cards, that is 2100€ after Patreon fees. I have no idea if he pays any taxes on this, lets's assume he does at around 33%, just because this is a complex topic and will much likely differ from country to country. That means he gets ~ 1400€ of which I assume 100-200€ going towards electricity, assets, and such.
Even if he wanted to do this full-time, that wouldn't be sustainable if he wasn't getting like 2-3x times that reliably. He'd also be self-employed, which might come with higher insurance costs and the need to compensate for sick leave, vacations, and reserves for hardware and such. Taxes would definitely be higher, at least where I live, so 3-4 times the money might be a more realistic mark for this, depending on where you live this might vary of course.
Getting help would mean paying someone else as well, which might be possible, but the added administration would also take away from his time again, and I wouldn't want to have to manage other people and business relations in my free time.
And if you keep this up as a 'hobby', you want to keep some time reserved for family and RL, so besides getting some better hardware to reduce actual render time, there would be nothing he could do about his output - and even that might not help at some point due to the time he needs for script writing and stuff as a possible bottleneck. Regardless of the money, he makes from this.
The hobby part is controversial even if you don't do it full-time as soon as you accept money for it, on the other hand, accepting money to help with your expenses doesn't make it a job, and why would you just shut down your Patreon after getting your electricity paid for?
