Which system do you have? For Mac there are more people who have problems with startup, don't have a Mac myself so can't test.
For PC I have the following tips.
Hold down Shift while starting Ren'Py, or press Shift+G once Ren'Py has started. From the "Graphics Acceleration" menu that appears, choose the FORCE ANGLE2 Renderer or find the right renderer until it run like normal
Or try deleting the persistent file from both game folder and C:\Users\<User>\AppData\Roaming\RenPy\HS-1539366243 (not saves)
Rather than what some here are saying, the game is definitely worth a try.

This game is the equivalent of a massive dump made after a long dinner out with friends
Calling someone ignorant because they have a different opinion then you is in fact ignorant. Many people dislike this game and they have a right to discuss how much they dislike it.
Only issue I have with this game is the obsessively long time it's taken to get to the equivalent of of maybe 20% of a full game. But at least there is 1 to 2 events every update, suffice to say this dev is only a fraction better then the other devs who go months with only bugfixes before releasing minor amounts of content.

My only real gripe is the need for a mod to skip text. Its grindy, mashing the space bar gets old. I personally like the art style, its a break from the PS2 quality realism that folks seem to love. Its also a nice break from the 3-D anime style that seems so en vogue. I personally love that the dev didnt go with GGG breasts, I'm tired of hot air balloon boobs. Say what you want, its decent, but grindy. I've played far worse off the alpha update page.

Pro-tip for any game that doesn't let you skip text use X-Mouse Button Control. You can set a mouse button to rapidly press space just by holding down the button. It's down on a per-application basis too which is nice.

Come on, dude. Most games have this content before the 3rd release. How many releases has it been since this game started? Hint - its more than a dozen. If you look at your list after considering how many releases the dev has chosen to actually FAIL to create content, you should be pretty goddamned embarrassed at yourself for arguing with people who find this game annoyingly a cash grab.
