What OS are you using? What is the error message?
Maybe deleting old data in the folder C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\RenPy\HS-1539366243 will help. The file persistent and possibly mod files.

started a new game earlier today saved the game logged out for a few hours loaded a save from earlier today and game keeps saying an exception has occurred when I hit the word back on the bottom of the screen

I played the old version last year. Waited a couple of revisions and finally replayed the game in the new format this weekend. It's much much better this go around. You get to be with each of the 4 main girls. I give it a hearty thumb up over the previous version.
If the developer is still working on further additions, I would like to see an open harem, they find a bigger place for all to live together, and a pregnant option. A 3some with Rosie and Mila or May would be a lot of fun!
