You drag your save file to it, change the variables you want, download the new save file and replace it.
Yeah but basic things like money and stats is the most important thing you need. Everything else is always more complicated. But you can't screw up those. And with that a lot more options quickly open up.
The idea of this game is amazing and the variety of pathes absolutely great. BUT... what is really annoying: the pathes interfere so heavy, that you have(!) to follow the walkthrough absolute exact. If you make the "wrong" choice in one path, you may block another path forever, but get no hint. It just ends (or repeats) and you don't know why. And the next point: you need specific levels of fitness, charme, intelligence and so on. Sometimes "at least", sometimes "less then", but there is no overview where you are.
Or to make it short: free playing becomes a pain very fast, and just copying the walktrough is no fun.

I used pk2000 modded version of the game listed above.
Edited my savegame with the editor as follows at the beginning:

patroncheck|i:1
After loading the edited save file, game says now that it is the patreon version. Can somebody check? Is the patreon content unlocked after the save file is edited like above?

Played this game way back when. It used to work that way. I do not think it changed

It's still incredibly buggy, which is sad, as otherwise I really like it even with the way too overly specific paths for various stories.
That's too bad. I would gladly come back to this game but going through frequent crashes isn't my thing.

(you should redownload the windows launcher, since this version is not compatible with php 5.x and I had to update it)
If you get errors follow the instructions from here to fix them.
I can't and won't playtest the game with every new release, to check every problematic file.
Windows and Linux mod (phpdesktop
Instructions:
download the archive for your OS (windows or linux) and the data archive. Extract both archives and merge their folders (=extract them in the same directory).
For the windows version you also need to install the x86 Visual C++ Redistributable Packages.
Download either the 2015 version
or the latest that has 2015, 2017, 2019 combined in one

can you explain how to get the patreon version with your unpacked version? thanks
The Data version link is taking me to a group of add where sits, one link told me to update shockwave when Adobe is droping support and is no longer updating or supporting shockwave anymore. Can we get better links for the two Launchers and the Data files?

Updated the patch.
The cheats/patches work both for the original version and the unpacked one.
For the original you should place the "HORNSTOWN.exe" and the "Data" folder of the cheat in the same directory.
Just choose the one you need, extract and replace the original file(if you use the unpacked version).
- "patron & developer mode" enables the in-game cheat mode.

Seems to work, but chosing the female character and going further, returns the character to a male. I probably screwed up somewhere.

Rocket science? Nothing that fancy...
If you are on windows
- download "Hornstown - windows.7z" and "Data v4.63.7z"
- move them inside a folder and extract both of them (with winrar, 7zip, bandizip, etc.)
- open the folder "Hornstown" (that is created after the extraction) and run the program "phpdesktop-chrome.exe".
