The AI was a mistake from the beginning, so it should definitely go back to the 3D renders. I think the question is whether the dev is going to fall back into "reworking" all of the scenes that were ruined by AI or whether she's going to keep progress moving forward. I think she should just put the AI chapters out of her mind and focus on future chapters only because the reworks are just as bad as AI, imo.
On the subject of Animations, to be brutaly honest, those kind of needed work before all of this AI business to begin with. the reverse loop and unnatural breast movement in the Amber scene (pre-AI) comes to mind. Loop reverse never looks good. Bodies don't move like that.
There are of things that other devs are doing these days with flesh physics, clothing and hair behavior, and custom animating that makes really cool, near-realistic scenes but the AI stuff basically distracted the dev from learning and progressing toward any of those techniques. AI doesn't play nice with animating unless you're trying to get some kind of surrealist product which is not what I think the dev wants with this VN. Something will always seem off, and I think the dev started to realize that.
So yeah, get rid of the AI. Let it die in a fire. Keep learning how to improve high-quality still renders and animations. Talk to other devs, build resources and keep learning. Don't get tempted to rework shit but apply new techniques to current and future content. That's the best path forward, imo.
