The story, the character and their development. As many others, I may have come for the porn, but stayed for the story.
Still if you want make an own thread ask your question and hopefully get answers that will help you you. You wouldn't be the first aspiring game dev doing that and wouldn't be the last or you could search for similar threads before posting your own...

Runey sticking with 1 is annoying because yes reliant very hard on forcing the art style carrying equal with words whereas pinkcake can flub a mini arc and just dump a "oh wait 4K fantasy roleplay interlude with four anims and super boss blender lighting, ignore that everyone hates new girl"

But that's a distinct part of the point. This game's art style being a literal decade old means the story has to carry. Hard. and because of that runey has an advantage pinkcake does not.... fully fleshed characters that do not simply exist to be a gamified onahole (talking?! in my pr0n, fuck that noise! Literally!) These characters are characters, they aren't waiting around for hero mcpenis to circumscribe their existence (yes with the exceptions of Lin and Droid, because that's literally their job).

Characters that change and evolve over the course of the story, sometimes for the worse. Characters that have opposing ideals and dreams. For every moment of fanservice, there is also the notion that this hotel is quite actually hanging by a thread in several ways, and none of them are arbitrary or artificial just for drama points, unlike the other game mentioned which quite literally has several characters as actual cockblock/story noise, which doesn't anywhere near the same kind of depth.

For a game about snogging pointy eared waifus the game is hella wide and hella deep... and not done yet.

Sure runey could take a LITERAL year and "convert" things to hs2 and probably pick up a bunch of new folks, but that doesn't change the story and that's the actual reason people still buy/dl/play this.

Personally, I like HS1 better than 2 in a lot of ways (but I prefer 2d over 3d), there are a lot more mods for it, and I know how to convert the custom assets I make for HS1. This means he can have a lot of custom things made for his game, that no one else has.

But in all honesty, the graphics are one of the least important parts of this game, and yet they keep improving. lol

Graphics are so irrelevant to the enjoyment of any game. We can go "wow that's cool", but it will never make us feel anything. Many of us enjoy games with nearly no graphics at all, like dungeons and dragons, and half the game is in your imagination. Other two insanely popular games are Runescape and Minecraft, with graphics older than honey select. Minecraft even tries to look older than it is and finds beauty in its style. Graphics have just never been able to carry a game. Look at Forspoken. I'm pretty sure Harem Hotel will be played more times than Square Enix's newest game.

You should know what you're getting anyway, this is an indie game. I have no choice with which assets I use like indie games on steam (which is beginning to slowly change).

Funnily enough I have actually remade most events before v0.13ish once or twice for the visuals. This is a MASSIVE undertaking that is taking years, but it's still u sing the same engine. I just want the quality to be consistent through the entire game.

Oh, you're right, kids can understand things far more than we give them credit for. You can explain any topic them well enough, its just they don't have the life experience or emotional maturity to put that information into context.

And yes, while A11-y was created as a partition from the Gynoid, she is still meant to be her own person and experience things differently from her mother. She has questions about love and sex and death, but she still needs experience and maturity to put that information into context. And that's something that can only be acquired with time. Essentially, kids, A11-y included, need to learn how to walk before they can run.

So, there is a complicated difference between "lived experience" or wisdom, and knowledge. All wisdom is knowledge, but not all knowledge is wisdom. Some things just can't be fully understood until they're experienced. However, that's the kicker there... fully understood... As a species, we've advanced as far as we have because we are able to impart wisdom as knowledge, and that knowledge prepares the next generation so that they have to spend far less time and energy on the experience phase to create wisdom, allowing them to take from the previous generation and build on it with their own new experiences.

With children, and Ally, we accomplish this, mostly, through repetition. You probably remember watching the same childrens films over and over, or how all the cartoons you watched had the same lessons to teach. Storytellers, throughout history, often retell the same tales over and over.

These conversations would need to be the same. They wouldn't be a one time thing, and they'd likely never be over. They'd be open ended conversations where you made sure that you communicated to the child both that they could come to you and ask about things, and the boundaries you have on that conversation. With this, you slowly build on a foundation of knowledge that expands with experience, which itself happens quicker as they have to figure out less on their own.

So yeah, you're not gonna sit Ally down and tell them what sex is and that's that. You're gonna set some boundaries, let them know some basic information, and encourage them to come to you with questions. That said, while I think Ally will be curious, I doubt she'll have any urge to do more with that information until she has a body that can interact with those desires... Like, a lot of our conception of sex and sexuality is based on hormones and for android, programming. Ally would probably look at sex the same way my Asexual friends often do... like it's this hilarious and alien thing some people do.

As for slavery... you and Android might lay the groundwork, but Ally should probably be encouraged to talk to Lin and Nia about it.

Part of the problem here, is that unlike an organic child, A11-y doesn't have the ability to feel physical pain, and while they are developing empathy well, they are still struggling with some of that, not knowing how other people feel. They did start to feel emotional pain in the last couple stories, and so is starting to have a basis of understanding.

It is hard to explain things like slavery, without empathy. In some ways, A11-y is a (genius) young child and in other ways, they are still a toddler with their understanding of feelings and such.

As for sex, they have almost unfettered access to the internet. I don't really expect Android to think sex is a big enough deal to block that.

Personally, I had access to a medical encyclopedia as a toddler, and my parents started teaching me to read as soon as I was able to get it, so had a basic understanding of it before I started school. It is actually pretty easy to explain the act of sex to children, without getting into the dirty details, this is why we have stories like "the birds and the bees". We can wait until they are older to talk about doing it for fun, special techniques, and what not. Once they have the body for it (and decide what they want it to be).

Once it is unlocked in her story, you can do that by going to her room, it is in her sex menu. But I am not sure what would require it for anything other than fun. Just to get the title/achievement.

Well, Maria and others have been pushing Autumn to try sex, or at least Anal, so it might be needed to cross that thresh hold and get what we all want from Autumn. They even had a conversation about girls fooling around with girls, where they kissed Autumn.
Vaginal or anal sex are only a small step away from that.
I think that Autumn should get Maria to teach her about anal sex first.
Maria + Strapon + Autumn = TheDevian, and possibly many others would be doing a lot of head patting after that.

Dev Diary #3 - v0.17 Development Begins!

What will be in v0.17?
I think v0.17 will be a fairly standard update with no real focus. All main characters will get at least 1 story event, side characters may get some story, there may be updates to the explore content, and the farmable garden is planned to be included.
But I think you're going to love the stories I have planned! Here are some previews...

Above we have Ashley's next event. Her search for Ren will bring them to an area colloquially known as Lowtown. This is a community of outcasts and undesirable humans and elves who are so unwelcomed in society that they have made their own. How Ren ended up here at one point will be a part of the mystery you will uncover.

Inside Lowtown you will meet a few members of this community. Such as the owner of a store named The Dead End.

There are many characters that you will meet in this event, both good and bad. You will get a taste of how this community works and why it exists, as well as how Ren and other outside forces effect it.

Next we have Kali's story.

Kali will be entering the next chapter in her story! She works at Nero Inc. now, so you'll get to see how she deals with that, and the new people she meets along the way, along with all the problems that come with this job. Corpus City (the capital of Syl'anar) is where Kali will be spending a lot of her time now, and she'll (literally) be living in her father's shadow.

And here's a small snippet of Lin's next event. There's A LOT planned for this event, I really hope I didn't make it too big on accident, but it will certainly be impactful.

Maria's next event will be fun and lewd. Maria wants to hone her charisma a bit more so she sets up a role play game in the bar which eventually gets out of hand as others from the cast show up. I hope you will all enjoy what I have cooking here, it's nothing serious and mostly for fun, but will also push Maria's current story forward.
I want to keep some mystery though, so that's all I'll share for now

Harem Hotel is has grown so big over the years, it's really hard keep it up by myself. I'm not looking for anyone to replace the work I currently do, but I think Harem Hotel would greatly benefit from some extra hands.
Just to name a few, I think Harem Hotel would benefit greatly from trailers, art, music composition, or any kind of talent you would be willing to offer that I do not do. When will v0.17 release?
Probably around May. But definitely when it's done. I'm still trying to streamline the development process with all of this extra detail.

The only vending machine is Ice Cream Vending Machine-chan, and that is not a bug. You don't own her, vending machines are typically owned and filled by other companies, who rent the floor space.

I started playing this, as it has very high review score and a lot of reviews. I'm fairly in the early but it's kind of boring so far... is it getting better later? i mean it's not a bad game, or anything, but still i don't see it being a 4.7 from 350+ reviews, unless it gets a lot better after some time

You are just being introduced to the world, wait until you get into the story.
