The weird thing is... I kind of did that.
I played v15 May-ish 2022, then lost track of it, so imagine my confusion when I remembered it in July 2024, and came back to only 2 updates and a 7 month long beta phase

One of the beach explore activities has a male elf that their owner put in a pink maid costume. It's an optional side event

This error corrupt all saves and normal you waste our time as players when you don`t guarantee working saves (from today till 6/5/2022).
Your save is now compromised, you will need to load an older save, or start over.
When I remember correct I started this game from zero (date ?) so it can`t be that you have start after a time all time from start again.

Well, if you play a beta, who is used to iron out the code and get you a as bug-free final release version of the game as possible:
It can happen.
If you don't want a such high risk for (game breaking) bugs, then don't play unfinished versions of games.

Yes people, please, listen to TheDevian and don't play unstable beta versions, wait for the stable version. And if you need something to do while waiting for the beta, well I am not trying to suggest anything to anybody, but maybe, it could be possible that, maybe, this thread could use some new memes. And there is a serious lack of A11-Y related memes. But again, I am not trying to suggest anything to anybody, I am not trying to tell you what to do, do what you want to do. Well, let's start from the beginning.
Can't I just back up save files somewhere else to avoid any risk to them when trying the beta? Or am I missing something?

Not missing anything at all, by all means. The primary reason for all the warnings is the average poster isn't backing up anything or reading that they're downloading a beta. They're downloading, running into errors and just shooting off questions to solve a problem without having understood the inherent risks nor knowing there's virtually no support for the beta's bugs.
There's been a couple posts from folks who have completed the beta and have said what they've done to do it. It's entirely possible - just apparently not for everyone.
As long as you save under a new slot, and don't mind replaying (the new stuff), you will be fine, but most people here only use one save slot, and end up fucking themselves.
