If I put my save files into the newly downloaded version of the game, is that how it's supposed to be done? So that I don't have to replay from the beginning and is any of the content added happening before the end of the last version?

Are you by any chance playing the beta, or using a save file from it?
The beta was never supposed to have been released to the public, because it had bugs.
We tried to warn people about it when the beta was leaked to F95.
Everyone who had used the beta was having issues similar to that.
The only fix if it is the beta is to either start over from the very beginning with the official release of version 0.18 or to get a save file from someone else to use in the official release..

You can try deleting the 2 'persistent' files, and loading a save from before you tried the beta.
I don't know if it was in this patch or the previous one, but thanks for the Felicity's anal scenes, I've waited ages for them.

That's the explanation I found, but I still wonder, did Lucy's story get a rewrite or something? Kinda thought about starting fresh from the start in v0.18 if there's new stuff to find in the previous stages of the game.

I think a bit, but if you don't do her on the beach, then her path is locked, using that code will unlock it.
