Don't have to preach to me about nostalgia - True love was my first game (I am both very old now and like many at the time - encountered porn games well before the age I legally should have been looking at such things through the magic of Kazaa). If you were looking for that it'd make more sense to go to the original considering the sheer amount of changes in V2 - which was intentionally made harder to find but still floats around.Likely because this game holds some amount of nostalgia for many lewd gamers. Lots of us have been perusing the H-game scene for well over a decade or two at this point (some of us going as far back as the 90's lol), and Ker's Harem RPG was a super popular game for many years back then, so I have little doubt that most of the folks working on these remakes were fans of the game back then, too.
There's also the (slightly more nefarious) possibility of folks wanting to remake this so they can get some of that sweet sweet Patreon money. I'm not saying that's what's happening here, but the fact that they have a Patreon and an Itch page means it's always a possibility. I don't really get that impression personally, though... seems more like a labor of love sort of project. Who knows.
V2 was almost certainly a cash grab on an old idea - All the empty grinding and padded playtime had made it very suspect, but when they started spending most of their time and energy trying to prevent legate scenes from being accessed by leaked copies rather than actually making more content...well, it's hard to argue that it was a passion project at all.
Many of these monetization schemes appear to have been repeated in full for this version. Might even be a bit worse - you have to pay them just to access a place to chat about the game outside of forums like these.
The person above who stated they and their wife were the team behind it - *probably* isn't lying. But the intent was pretty clearly there and they don't seem to have done anything to stray from that business model.
Though if you want to go down that rabbithole... they hid their finances 6 months ago so it's hard to know exactly how much they are pulling in, but based on current sub numbers and previous averages it's probably around 1k USD/month. Enough to make getting by easier but hardly a fortune if they are legitimately paying freelancers for their work and they arn't hiding some of the income from gig workers while promising a % or some grift level stuff like that.
I can't really hate the hustle, times are hard. But to call it a passion project...that one is setting some sensors off.
