Well... it's my understanding (and correct me if I'm wrong) that chapter 5 is ready, but chapter 6 is close to ready, so she's delaying both until she can release both.

My feeling is, if this is so, she should release chapter 5 seperately and then chapter 6 when it IS done.

<sigh> That's not the way I believe the post is written. . .or how I quoted it. She said she had sufficient material to begin writing chapter 6, that she was well into it but not that it is any where close to being 'done'. She also intimated chapter 5 'will eventually be released' on its own. ...and she did imply some day not soon.

Now, since it's been six months of nothing, on top of over a year after chapter 4 was released, I believe you're smokin' something to hope for, or expect, anything to be released this year.

but, hey, don't let me interrupt your dreams...they fit right in here. I just wish you were more correct. Who wouldn't like to see something released. . .finally.

Well, she was charging for the last couple of months, for no playable release, so this isn't quite the own you think it is.

Mind you, I don't think this is malicious, she's just a perfectionist moron who thinks her game exhausted Python's Mersenne Twister.

The problem ain't renpy, it's that her skill at coding is quite frankly subpar. Which in general is fine, lots of gamedevs are bad coders, but the code is a means to an end, and the coding still usually gets the job done holding everything else up the devs wants to do.
Savegame compatibility is gonna be fun going forward I guess. Solved problem's just another word for "I've got a better idea. Well not better, but..."

After I withdrew my pledge after hearing nothing for such a long time in... April? I decided to pledge again when she surfaced for air, because she generally has paused when she feels she ought to (and I've agreed with her. Anyway I haven't been able to during May or June (or just now, as I went to get this snip), because

ETA: I actually didn't "withdraw" my pledge, but changed it to the unpaid tier so that I could keep an eye on something. This is what happens when I try to go back to the 5$/month level.

So... I don't know where you get your intel, since you're obviously not a backer, but they're lying to you, or you're making assumptions. One or the other I reckon.

The rest of your post I don't have any problem with: Criticize Notty's coding ability or her perfectionism or a myriad of other things, and I will actually agree with you on a lot of stuff! Even if I didn't, they're your opinions and you're entitled to them. But what gets me is how so many critics have to make shit up about Notty charging her backers for years, all for nothing, when it's just not true.

I can contrast that with OTHER devs who will of course go nameless, who do bilk their followers, offering nothing for years yet consistently ripping them off through Patreon month after month.

hm, one of the reasons i left patreon when i did.. was the snafus and hiccups when it came to pledges.
patreon does shakey things behind the scenes at times.
this one shown above used to be an old issue even with paused ones, couldn't change a thing. supposedly (!) fixed in 2019.
another was, when stopping a pledge, for 'sorry it shouldn't be like this, but we investigate the issue' reasons, money kept being moved..?!
and more.

guess i'll buy the finished on GOG.

My source'd be... her Patreon posts. She paused way back when for a long while, then posted she'd unpause and intermittently wrote she'd pause for a month. So my understanding of the situation was that there've been months after the long pause during which there's been charges, but if that's my misreading, my bad.
And for the record, I don't think she'd be milking, even if it was unpaused for a couple of months - that's definitely not one of her faults.
Post just rubbed me the wrong way (we already know she frequently pauses payment) and I was in a bit of a mood, consider that line withdrawn, sorry :)

At this point, the only situation where it'd be reasonable to reactivate any pledges, would be after content delivery. After such a long time, there is zero justification in my mind to throw money anywhere. Personally I would 100% require proof, that the dev is back on the project. Not 1 second before. But that's just me, I tend to follow what my brain tells me, not my dick.

I'm sure I'm not the only one expecting a "Hey guys I'll take 6 more months but add chapter 6 to the mix" more than an actual release of something.

Yeah I get you. And you're right about March and April I think. I changed my pledge at the time because I didn't know if something had happened to Notty and didn't want a necro account hoovering up my money.

So far I think she's had a total of about 4 months since last release that she's not unpaused? I may be forgetting a month I guess. And personally that adds up to something like 20$ over the last couple years. For me, that's a reasonable price for the hope of an eventual return. I think the biggest problem (which Notty is acknowledging on her Discord) is the terrible community management this last stretch. Going radio silent for months at a time when people are eagerly awaiting a long overdue product is not great. So yeah I'm planning on holding her to better communication in the future. If things are taking yet longer, and she's still being honest about not taking money beyond keeping her needs met (no one benefits if she can't make rent) that's one thing. But one post every three months is another.
