Well it is an extreme slow burn game. idk I think the characters are great tho I do admit the way Emma acts is the main reason I have no interest in her. Even if she is about to turn 19 would still really weird to me age difference aside.
I've never looked at Emma as an LI, probably cause I looked at Charlotte and was hooked. But, I love the 'fathering' relationship with her. Her completely platonic love for MC, Her tears when Charlotte kisses MC and her genuine excitement to have a father figure in her life. I almost cried when she called MC (me) Dad in latest update.

tbh even if Emma acted her age id be more into Charlotte anyways. Something about Charlotte I just love she drew me in right away but yeah being a father to Emma is something I really liked as well. Another reason id only play Emma's path maybe once we do have sex with her or when the game is completed just to check it out for the sake of content and that's it.

When I saw this in the update I had to make a speed run and name the MC Joshy for all those times we joke about Suzi killing him screenshot0001.png

I recently finished the update, and I don't know what you all mean about the quality going downhill. The renders and dialog are just as good as always, IMHO. Sure, it's not that lengthy, but whatever the dev can do in a reasonable time, I'm thankful for.

I am sorry to hear that the dev is so stressed about Hillside and unhappy to work on it. Honestly, life is to short to devote time to things you hate, so if the dev really hates working on Hillside, than he should just stop. We will all be disappointed not to see the relationship between the MC progress further, and see the story play out, but there are many other games.

I really think the main issue, is that the story has grown more and more complex, and the dev isn't sure how to wrap things up. If I were the dev, I would take a break, and then when you want to work on it again, write out the whole story, from now until the end, decide what part of the story goes in each update, write the dialog, or at least an outline, before doing anything else. I think the uncertainty and stress about where the story is going, and how to end it satisfactorily, is causing most of the issue with development, I could be wrong of course.

I hope, DarkBlue, if you see this, just take a break for however long you need. 3 months, 6 months, whatever. If you don't feel a desire to go back to Hillside, and enjoy working on it, and seeing the story move onward towards completion, don't do it. Find something else to do with your time that you enjoy. Watch Netflix, take a walk in the wilderness, join a club, whatever you enjoy doing.

We all would love to see it continue, but if dev says they dislike working on their game, really, it's time to take a long, long, break until they feel differently, or just hang in the towel.

I agree with this I recently played it and I honestly couldn't tell a difference in quality either seemed like a great update so far to me as well. I cant wait for the 2nd half whenever that is.

Sure, there are many other games but none like this. I was telling my buddies the other day if this does end up abandoned, I'll be leaving this site and AVNs in general.

Still DB did say he won't abandon the game so let's hope he can restore his passion for the game.

I hate to see ya go joshy I love your post but kind surprised be enough for to quit just cause of how much I see you love certain other games, this one must be more special than I thought for you. tho I do feel like I need to slow down on AVN's myself been awhile since I actually finished a normal video game. Not gonna lie AVN's do feel a tad addictive until I hit a rock and don't have the motivation to try many new ones from my backlog.

Im here for Lucy sadly not much Lucy for this update. Charlotte stupidly freakin hot but I think not good for MC. MC got enough troubles already he need someone make him happy not constantly afraid he might do something wrong with Charlotte. Charlotte needs therapy not a love life. I only see Emma as a daughter.

Funny thing is Lucy was going to be my first pick when I first played this game. But idk I ended up feeling bad for Charlotte and the whole trauma thing is what made me really like her as a LI. She is the LI that made me realize I have a thing for LI that have trauma as I just really liked being there for Charlotte whenever she needed the MC.

But yeah you are right if you want a normal relationship Charlotte is not the one unless you are willing to be patient as hell with her. I think both are Lucy and Charlotte are good for the MC personally but it all depends on how long you will wait. Cause the few times Charlotte's trauma is pushed to the side and she is having a good time she is amazing , but yeah she is not good for the MC in the short term. To me it feels like the MC is good for Charlotte and Charlotte is good for the MC in the long term. While Lucy and MC are good for each other no matter what as both are missing love from their life. As I feel they both have a void that will be filled by one another.

I'm in the same boat. After awhile it's hard to keep starting new AVN's when they either get abandoned or have short updates every few months.
Sometimes the dev betrays their audience and flips the genre of the novel on its head too.
The fact that there are relatively few complete AVN's of good quality compared to the vast ocean of "in progress" AVN's is very telling.
Most of the stories we like won't ever be finished and of those that are "finished" even fewer get non-rushed decent ending that they deserve.
I think this will eventually bite the AVN market in the ass and hurt future authors.

Yeah right now I just get excited for updates like Hillside otherwise only very few AVN's on my backlog standout to me right now but im getting close to 100 AVN's played and almost been playing AVN's for a year now without much of a break to play other games. So probably just a case of needing a break for me. AVN's getting dropped not that a huge deal to me as im an anime lover so im used to it. Still if Hillside does ever get dropped it would suck as it's one of my favorite AVN's right now and one that I will replay for fun. Currently I only replay it during update cycles but if it did get dropped id probably still replay this at least once a year. Kind of feels special to me.

I divide the VN's into three groups:

1. MUST HAVE
These are the kind of VNs where there is a high probability that I will play/read them several times. HILLSIDE definitely belongs in this group, among other things. These VN's go straight into my games folder.

2. NICE TO HAVE These are the kind of VN's that have piqued my interest and I'm willing, according to the thread, but not so much that I want to play again. Here save my saves in the games folder and delete the game.

3. NOT HAVE Most of the time I don't even finish playing these VNs and delete them immediately from my download folder.

Still if Hillside does ever get dropped it would suck as it's one of my favorite AVN's right now and one that I will replay for fun. Currently I only replay it during update cycles but if it did get dropped id probably still replay this at least once a year. Kind of feels special to me.
I can completely understand that. I've lost count of how many times I've started Hillside, be it to replay the entire game or just certain "highlights", but mostly when I'm having a "BAD DAY". No other VN touches me as much as HILLSIDE!

Tbh I am addicted to this and other games but like you I'm trying to ween myself of off so much porn.
But don't count me out yet friend. Let's wait and see what DB does concerning Hillside first.

Maybe he will get his passion for the game back and the next part could be even better than ever.

nope it was called 0.15 first half. Dev made a post saying they didn't finish in time of the deadline they set but decided to give us 1/2 of the update. Yeah I get what you mean I just recall some other parts had long stretches without much choices so you saying that about this update doesn't surprise me ( never got around to finishing it yet)
I guess yeah and if u think about it, every choice in this game was more or less about who you wanna persue. Thinking back I can't recall a single choice that wasn't related to which LI you want so i guess i diluted myself in thinking it was a choice based game when it's never been that.
