I'll cede it was probably a 'lot' of effort, all the tech work needed to be done and it must have been a pain in the ass, but agree to disagree with it being a great one, because it's just not a good translation. It's not 'oopsies' when at least half the dialog sounds like someones first week trying to use another language while on vacation. The entire point of a translation is to make it legible and enjoyable in english; and unless making a sex scene funny is the goal machine translations sadly just don't uplift the experience. According to the source I DLed last it's just a barely touched machine translation.

Hopefully someday someone does a cleaner job for sure. The thing is, and what annoys me a little, that the fact there is an MTL that mostly makes the game something you can understand if not enjoy as fully as with a carefully handcrafted localisation means that it's less likely anyone will bother. It's not generally considered worth the effort if a translation 'exists'.

The translator can't localize if he's not a native speaker, hence why he asked for help but the result is what I said above, and whether is it just mtl you need to put the two side by side to compare before claiming so. I remember it stayed close to original, keeping all the honorific and stuff so that's not the case, undermining the guy effort is the good way to tell people who have the will to help out this isn't worth their time to make translation for the community even if it's a mtl, let alone making a localized one since most quit at point where bugs start to show up.

Honestly? Given that an existing MTL can be the difference between whether someone translates something 'properly' or even just adjusts it in their priority list (i.e. translating something else that has no MTL, and intending to move onto [game with MTL] later) and then just never reaching it, I can't say I would hate that end result even if it wasn't a strawman. Nobody is going to stop doing MTLs, especially if they have a patreon or some other way to take donations, just because I'm blunt. Still, the sad reality is Frostea has an MTL with some really off lines, and it's probably never getting a true translation unless the developer decides to do a localised Steam release. (Not impossible, just, unlikely.)

You should try to translate some image and solving bug yourself to see whether it's motivating to do more work for the community when having people claiming it as mtl, basically have nothing to back up their claim then simply gaslight it as being 'blunt', this is the translator first project so he basically worked on very little support. If 'mtl existed so no one will work on it now' is your biggest worry here, you can put the actual mtl next to the guy who tried to translate from a foreign language to another foreign language translation and show it to a translator with patreon you're supporting, if it's as bad as you claimed then good chance they will work on it, especially when the current translation already translated the images and bugless.

You're sounding way too upset about this whole thing, I'm just some rando on the internet dude or dudette. That said, so are you, unless there is a translator behind a sock puppet behind this oddly passionate defence of someone I'm not particularly attacking? Either way, I stand by my stance. The translation is appreciated, in so far as that someone tried, but it's low quality and it's as simple as that and pretty objective.

You can understand if you read my comment #63 in particular again or all of it if you're still wondering why, every time I see people spouting unchecked fact and dodge when being asked to provide backup of their claim, it makes my stomach churn, 'this is why we can't have nice things' kind of moment, contributors like him and dazed are the people who push the community forward, undermining their effort can only do the opposite. But if you want to believe it must be something else here, like 'omg must be alt account' then there's nothing I can do or say, like, lol nice deflect.

No deflecting here, I genuinely just don't see why one random poster has you so riled up and in 'someone is wrong on the internet!' mode. You realise this little back and forth has dominated the majority of a page, when there are only four in the thread (about an entirely different game at that), right?

I can post some more hilarious chunks of the translation if you like? My favourite scene has plenty of them, sadly. Unchecked facts, lol.

It really seems comprehension is not one of the ability you have so I'm not going to be too hard on you by telling you to read again, carefully, it's all going to slide off smoothly again anyway. But I'll tell you this one thing and hope it actually stays this time, be the change you want to see in the world, go ahead and collect it all up, or make a comparison between mtl and the current translation as a proof, and show it to the most reliable, ideal translator you're supporting and ask for a rework, tell me what their response is okay;) Maybe we'll actually have something progressive out of this exchange.

Actually, never mind, we are so far beyond off topic that if this game had been better, we would be getting yelled at by now. You enjoy your MTLs, I'll not do that, and we'll call it good. It's funny you would start to insult my intelligence when you're the weirdo who decided to call out a rando on their translation preferences in a thread dedicated to a totally different title based on an aside.

I know this is 6 months late and I haven't played this game but wasn't Lysteria and Frostea the exact same? Super linear story, done in 2-3 hours, almost no side content (literally none with lysteria if I remember correctly). What made you think this one was so much worse than the others?
