They likely are doing on purpose because you can use metadata on images to infect computers with malware, Discord implemented a scrub on uploaded image because that keep happening.
I know of this because a long, long time ago someone did that with Bethesda forums replacing one of the images with one that contained malicious code, this is also why you never open .pdf files from non-trusted sources unless you want to be part of a bitcoin mining operation or worst ...
