I was a fan of the "parts" system. where it was say part 1 through 5. You extract one and they ALL extract where they need to go. And lets be honest, there are games bigger than this with one file. I have a cable connection. It's ok, I can download all at once.
Yes, that is the standard way of making archive volumes. "Standard" as in not just recognized as good practice, but also the default way almost all programs do this.

There does sometimes exist a reason one wouldn't want to do this, and instead separate specific chunks out each into their own compressed folder, but I'm unsure if there's a real reason it's being done so here.

Either way, it takes the same amount of time to extract. All it does different for the end user is save a few mouse clicks when done as volumes instead of individual archives.

OMG so adorable.

sufficiently knowledgeable about computers to grasp the fundamentals of how file systems are used. files, folders, filepaths, compression, file extensions, etc. i could send this person an archive containing a PDF you can't fill out digitally, and ask for them to fill it out digitally and return it to me, and they would be able to figure it out without asking for help.
Yea idk. Any Gen-X or Millennial in enterprise just calls that 'working,' we don't have a word for that its just.. "knowing how to do their fucking job."

Although I guess the PC word is 'tech literate'

God forbid people actually use the search function, troubleshoot their issues and lurk for once in their goddamn life to try and fix their shit before becoming on here to complain.

The fact that you think it's proper to ping someone with such a low-effort question about a guide so old and thinks it's fine, tells me how much of a sad, pathetic piece of shit you are.

The other posters are kind though, props to them. I should go boot up Hounds of the Blade again.
Yes god forbid I read 3 or 4 posts above my first response where the guy I directed my original question linked his own 3+ year old post and I with my whole brain damage problem missed the part around his link that told me to download all the files... AND thank god after the fact I already thanked the person who made the "how to install this game" post who responded AND then you decided to not read any other replies and instead smacked my nose because being an @$$ to anyone who asks a question whether they searched or not is a totally appropriate response...

You didn't install the game correctly. Here's a full, detailed post I made to explain it a long time ago, since some people find copy and pasting hard. Note this was from when the game only had 2 parts, just repeat the steps for all the parts as needed.
Thank you for the help, I can now continue the game.

So my point stands. If I can download a 10GB file, anyone can. no need for volumes.
Well, dividing into parts is actually a good practice in itself because you don't have to rely on download continuity + it's easy to reupload one missing part. My issue is the way they are divided because some people overdo it (yes, there are still pirate places that share one game divided into hundreds of 200mb parts), making all benefits null and void.

Other times, like here, it is done by hand like it's the 90s, which is not intuitive these days and might cause minor irritation. Not a problem if clearly communicated (no, saying "extract all archives" is not clear communication in this case).

You are aware, that there are still places with NO internet at all.
This.

Also it eats up enough of my time to have to upload it to three different sites and create the post. I'm not going to start combining all parts into a single archive for you. Do the work, it won't kill you, and if you haven't noticed.. these gooners might actually be learning something anyway.

yeah you shouldn't
inui could, and honestly i'm sure it'd be easier for him too to just compress it the standard way lol either in one part or multiple but like .part1 .part2 .part3 whatever but the way he's doing it he's just complicating things for himself for no reason XD hahaha but well, if it works for him then it works for him i guess
but ya you definitely shouldn't
it's not a big deal, it's not even difficult, and it'd take too much time for you to do it just for some entitled mfs

Man, if only people knew the real reason the game's split up like this is because of Ci-en's upload/download system.
Correction - they are split up because of Ci-En's upload system...but they are split up THIS way because of personal preference. Ci-En doesn't care if it's a continuous archive or independent ones (like here)

Won't somebody PLEASE think of the starving people in [insert country name offhandedly here] !!!

On serious note, I'm low key surprised no one else has attempted a similar game to Inui [even a pale imitation], his style seems unique in that no one else has tried making a game like his.

The closest thing I can think of would be Guilty Hell 1 & 2 and that's really only because they're both 2D side scrollers with H-content.

Well...you've basically mentioned the similar games and you should already know WHY no one else even attempts it.

Seriously, this game is a massive dedication for relatively little gain. And people see that.

If Inui was "smart", he would most likely do a western-dev move - develop a decent, eye catching prototype and milk it on Patreon for years without anything of value being added for years. We are lucky he doesn't but it's a rarity these days.

Another angle is that people know they will always compete and be compared against both Inui and Kairi, so the bar is relatively high in terms of amount of content and work ethics (regular updates). If I were to finally go with my own miserable attempts at h-dev gamemaking, I'd NEVER try to do anything even remotely similar to HotM because I know the biggest compliment I'd ever get would be "oh, it's HotM clone"...which is not what one would want to hear about their work.
