okay i'm just gonna ask since i'm seeing that this game is not exactly a sequel to game of hearts, and I know that the best would be to just read and see but i'll ask anyway, what is this game about exactly? or at least what does this first episode set us as? I work late and have minimal time go through avns nowadays and i want to know if the story is going south and will not have previous characters and is not worth reading anymore or it promises something interesting

Damn, almost missed this one! Finished straight away and it's just as fantastic as the previous game ever! I appreciate the way the dev handles the two LIs in the first game, each new LI brings their own unique traits and backstories for us to be engaged in, and the lore of this game becomes more and more interesting for me.

Bruh, what a disappointment. How did it get so generic after the unique first game?
Generic in what sense, care to Elaborate? The way i see it, this is more of that same uniqueness with new LIs and old ones returning later on i assume. Although this is just a first episode but unless dev suddenly change his stance drastically, i think it's a safe assumption to make that this will remain good and hopefully will get better with updates, though i'm not quite yet sold on couple of new LIs but the game is just beginning and after the very decent previous game, i'm willing to put a little faith in this dev's work.

Yeah, I don't really understand this comment about it being generic either. Seems like a logical development on the first game, with the same things that made it unique. And I'm already really digging the new LIs.

Agreed. I think it's a great start to another chapter of this story. Is there more exposition at the beginning of this one compared to the first game? Yes, but not in a bad way. Once you get to the mechanics part of toying with them, it is very similar. I recently replayed it and got different points on the two available so the choices do still make a difference. I am already having guilty thoughts/expectations (sort of ha) of when the girl at the end (no spoilers) of this release gets to me and how I will help "reconnect" everyone. I love Ruby's character and glad to see her involved as well.

The first game had a strong focus on one character and a few side love interests — that was its strongest aspect for me. Here, we already have a generic harem setup with scattered attention, and it will only get worse as more and more new LIs are added. I’ve elaborated on this more in my review.

The first one did have a strong focus on Meredith, but the others were never just side LIs, particularly Julia (who frankly got just as much if not more character growth time compared to Meredith, even if fewer sex scenes). It was pretty clear to me by around the 3rd chapter of GoH they were always going to be main LIs in a harem. Julia/Lilith and Ruby were clearly past romantic partners of Nero, for example. That's not a "side LI" backstory.

And narratively the main part of Meredith's arc is done. Short of inventing new drama with her, the focus necessarily shifts some in a sequel.

To add further, the plot of Game of Hearts sets up the premise that Nero will need devoted followers to increase his power enough for the upcoming war. The dev never hid the fact that it's a forced harem game, and it's surprising to me how that seems to be the largest critique of this chapter.

Yeah, I get it, and I’d be happy if Julia, Ruby, or someone else became the main focus, as long as the game kept the same core structure. It’s just personal taste — I don’t like big harems.

One of the dev posts a while back commented something to the effect that for the time it took to make, GoH didn't advance the story and characters at a pace fast enough for him to finish the whole story in anything close to a reasonable time. Focusing on the development of more characters at a time in HoH was probably deemed necessary to finish the planned story and romantic developments in hopefully a few years rather than 15 years or more.

I do also get that harems are not for everyone. But considering GoH established the premise that MC would need multiple devoted followers and also that demons generally are not monogamous, I don't find such a development surprising.

Julia and Ruby have an established history with Nero's past. The idea behind their stories is that the old Nero is replaced by the new one (which is us as the player), and their romance arcs are intended to help them accept/love the player rather than who Nero was before.

Brie changes that premise a bit by only having an established history with us through Nero's mom. Just like Julia and Ruby though, the bond we form with her is more organic than Olivia and Helena due to Brie being seen more as an equal than servant.

The point being that the story is following two major arcs in terms of building a harem: the first is through extended manipulation to create worshippers, and the other is building relationships with deities. Each arc retains uniqueness by offering differing approaches on how you win the person's affection.

Understandable, especially given the fact that overwhelming majority of harem games turns into fuckfests where everyone is drooling for each other under the guise of that tag.
Fortunately, that is not the case in this game. I myself am mainly here for Brie, Ruby and Julia not only because i like them most but also because they are linked to the MC on the personal and most intimate level rather than being part of his "job".

Apologies for the brief silence; I got a terrible case of food poisoning, and it got me so sick I had to lie in bed for days on end. That did take me out of commission of both this project and my job, but I'm good now, and production is back in full swing.

I have made quite a decent progress despite that.

The first episode is merely introductory; the second expands on the world and the setting, while delving into the meat of the shoots that will happen later. I would love to expand and explain more on the first episode, but it is already too exposition-heavy as it is, so I elected to spread the story stuff across multiple episodes instead of all at once.

There is a lot more to be done, for sure. I still find ways to improve and consistently try to place more emphasis on telling the story through pictures—that will be even more evident in future releases.

Episode 1 is a foundation of what is to come.

The next episode is where the story truly begins.

But that isn't all that I've done. I've found a good way to incorporate a gallery/scene replay, and have successfully done so for Game of Hearts. House of Hearts will receive the same treatment in the next release.

Thank you again for all of your support!
