How important is gameplay to you?

I'm currently planning my first adult game and was wondering how important gameplay is to you guys.
Personally, I'm not a fan of games with almost no or bad gameplay even though they have good sexual content / story.

Examples for the choices:
5 - an adult themed management or rpg game
1 - a classic Visual Novel

A porn management game without good sex scenes is just a crappy management game. A VN with no choices is a comic reader, one with a bad story a slideshow where I hold tab.

I disagree on the whole 5% sexual content, becuase that assumes the porn has nothing to do with the gameplay, and at that point you might not even have it in the first place.

A VN with a tasteful amount of choices and/or minimal exploration is plenty of "gameplay" for me. I can only think of a handful of (EDIT: adult) games where I genuinely enjoyed the gameplay parts:

- The space battles in Subverse
- The training scenes in Pinktea's games
- The text-based exploration in Corruption of Champions

Repeating sections of dialogue or visiting a location several times in a row in order to grind for stats is NEVER good gameplay. Following from that, sandboxes are bad and you should not make your game a sandbox.

I think sandboxes can be fun if there is actual choice and gameplay instead of just grinding the next scene. Sadly, sandbox is often used as an excuse for excessive grind.

I stand by the idea that if people are playing porn games for the gameplay, they need to just jack off and then play a normal game. I'm aware that not everyone feels this way, but I still don't personally get it. Porn games are porn. People watching porn hoping for a good story or something might get one, but they'd probably have more luck finding one outside of porn.


That said, I only really got into this shit like last year (2021, none of that "Last year was a fewdays ago" shit) so perhaps I'm just not too far gone yet.

Everyone has their own biases about what they think makes the best game or what content you should put in or what engine to use, etc. Those of us that are active in various threads skew results. We are a very small minority of the people who come to this site. We are a minority of those who actually post in the thread. Those who do post, mostly post in the threads of games/content they are interested in - not a wide variety of threads. People who post are a minority of those who come to the site. Thousands of people come to F95 daily to download and play games, but never post. The people who come here to download are a minority of all NSFW game players. You are getting responses from a minority opinion of a minority of posters of a minority of site visitors of a minority of people who play NSFW games.

That's not to say some of the responses aren't good - there are some great responses. However, asking personal choices of what people like or dislike, self-inserting or not, 2d or 3d, etc. - you're not getting a representative sample of the NSFW game playing public - whether free players, players who pay retail, or players who subscribe on patreon and similar sites.

A game needs to be developed with the creator's vision on what THEY would like to play if someone made a game exclusively for them with their own likes and desires in mind.

Au contraire, if I wanted just porn I'd watch a movie or look at a comic.
I think the biggest advantages games have as a medium is immersion and buildup.
I like games that give the players lots of freedom.
I want to be entertained inbetween sex scenes.
Basically I want either a good game with porn in it, or a VN that is interactive enough to be distinct from a movie/comic.

Tbh porn games fill a strange nieche for me: I wont play them just for gameplay, and I also won't play them if I need to blow off steam NOW. I think I play porn games when I am too horny to play competetive games, but not horny enough to jerk off right away.

I want gameplay, doesn't have to be great but it should be engaging. The closer the game hits to my fetishes, the less and worse gameplay I'll tolerate, but there has to be some. My ideal game would have 2/3 to 5/6 gameplay + story/sexual content.

I personally really like gameplay & story to go along with the sexual content! For me it makes it better knowing how, why, and to what extent the sexual stuff is taking place, and if I get to choose which character or creature it's with or not.
