I think most of the cases are legitimate, not completely fake anyway. A lot of the devs probably already have health issues. Some sort of disability enough to give them time to develop games. The hobby devs that have a regular job can't have long to work on their projects at home. I can't think of 5 years where some problem hasn't come up. You still go to work, just have less down time at home. 5+ year dev frames are bound for distaster or abandonment in my opinion.

That the European way? Tell me what country, because i live in Belgium/Netherlands all my life and Normal hours is 5 days a week 8hours and if lucky 1 hour break (means 9hours at work). Never heard of a 4 days week unless you take care of a relative. Worked 60 to 80h a week for 35 years with hardly breaks and doing fine physically and mentally. (aware that i'm lucky) Don't want to diss you, but it's not European per se. Maybe just your country?
