Alaina's trying to pull the elves out of decline by putting a (half) elf into power. You're the end result of decades of political speed chess that either required or created a massive amount of collateral damage. I regard the decision not to kill her at the end of chapter 1 to be the hardest in the game, because she absolutely deserves it and I really want to. But, she's an incredibly powerful ally and a ride-or-die when it comes to my plans for reunification.
What I mean is, I don't get why she set up the shellgame with Regis.

Like, the older brother would have already been down to have a half elf heir, right? With Regis dead and Cassandra a girlchild, then even if he was in jail the older brother should have ended up on the throne. Conrad is 3rd born and would probably have been too young back them, so the older brother is basically the only choice. And Elder Brother was (probably) already plowing Celestyne so a half-elven king was already on the horizon.

Basicaly, Alaina seems to have caused problems for no reason imo.

Between his (alleged) murder of the Red Emperor and everyone worrying about him relaunching the Emperor's campaigns, he wouldn't have had enough support to hold the throne. That's assuming that he could still legally inherit the crown after he was found guilty. He was most likely stripped of his titles and inheritance in exchange for his life.

Fuck me, I bet that's why dad had us accept the crown of the west instead of him. It legitimizes us over Conrad, when/if his investigations bear fruit. I bet Alaina had a hand in that decision as well, the sneaky bitch.

I don't find it difficult at all, as you stated her interests align very solidly with ours (as long as we are good a good ruler to the elves, which I intend to be), and what she did, she clearly did it to save her people and not out of any personnal thirst for power (her taking her secret to the grave when you kill her show that). And the only plot she made (that we're aware of, of course, she likely bloodied her hands much more than that) which I actually disapprove of is killing Cass' mother.

A very smart, very powerful elf whose main goal is getting us and keeping us in power as long as MC do what I'm naturally inclined to do? That's not the kind of help we can afford to reject. Only thing is that I'd REALLY like MC to insist with her on more transparency on her plottings. Well, that and have a discussion about Celestine's faction fucking up any of our future efforts to end the mistreatements toward elves.

Doesn't hurt that she's hot (tho I prefered her more regal appearance in first episodes).
Why does everyone seems to forget that Alaina instigated the Cass coup attempt? That doesn't count as a plot? And it was a pretty dubious plot considering that Elis could've died during the chaos that erupts if you refuse to side with Cass (Alaina doesn't even bother to show up to help us during it and keeps spewing poison in her ear if Cass is spared), and if you go along with Cass it puts the crown in a contradictory stance with her plans for the elves as Cass seems to be firmly in the "burn the forests" camp.
