I can't really say if Alaina truly deserves to die, but she certainly deserves to die by Cass' hands. Lifelong manipulation that reached to the point of indirectly orchestrating a coup? Fueling her anger towards the king in every chance (probably since the childhood) hence isolating her even more from the royal family, and lastly orchestrating your exile which isolated her even more even if it was in your favour... Damn bro. She didn't hold back when it's her.
Her approach to Cass speaks a lot about her personality, her cruelness. Alaina might be the best written character of the game, I'll give her that.
Also,
killing Alaina before Cass then telling her the schemes of Alaina is the absolute love move. She even reminds you of the marriage promise when you meet her after the dinner.
