We don't really know the succession system of the kingdom. He may be in-line after all the sons & daughters of the king. Also even if he is in some conspiracy I don't think he has any vicious goals (one Cass is enough) or better yet he may be not aware he is in one, like Aker. Afterall, he protected Lia, risking his life, not knowing the help is coming.

I just want the MC to be able to change the law and marry Cass as well if he made that promise to her. Maybe that would help her settle down.
