Funny story – I came this close to narrowly miss Imperial Chronicles because of the mediocre rendering in its preview screenshots , until a friend's rave review convinced me not to miss this true gemEh, it's really important to be clear what one means with render quality:
- There's the quality of the renders as the visual art component of the game - everything including art direction, lighting direction, staging, the content of the renders etc. Which is good, yeah, at least to me (beauty being in the eye of the beholder and all).
- And then there's the technical quality of the renders - and even on a 1080p monitor there's quite a bit of obvious noise, occasional lighting errors (probably due to compositing instead of re-rendering the whole scene), etc. Not because LM is bad at it, but because avoiding those would require either a lot more time, more and better hardware, or both. They're definitely functional and ok considering the speed and other constraints (and definitely preferable over "better" renders in updates that took 4 times as long), but calling the technical rendering quality good... would be stretching it a biiit to far
