the game uses Japanese words in the engine script,
in order to avoid bugs--->you have no other choice but to set your local to Japanese,
locel emulator will not be able to read the engine/audio texts.

Well for now, something is wrong with the text. Looks great in the screenchots though but I have boxes in between the words.

and after I beat the coward, there were several times I had to advance text with nothing shown.

Dunno if There was a guide that I skipped, but tip, if you hold c you can rotate to attack rather than being hit first or switching targets

Yes, that's what I did, and this is what I'm seeing :


Granted, I haven't played for long, and there are some weird characters at the end of the speech text, but the game seemed to run fine otherwise.

Switching my system to Japanese locale for good is not an option for me, and switching it on and off for a single game is hassle I try to avoid when I can, but it may work for you if nothing else does.
