Sad Crab is getting typically more than $20,000 on Patreon each month. Coding in Ren'Py is not difficult at all. And replicating an art style isn't all that difficult either

Ren'py's coding depends on game to game, same as Arts. IW's code is more difficult than the others. I've been in the industry for long enough to say that, the current speed of IW development (2021~) is quite good.

Dude, if you guys just release a update full focused on H scenes, your entire fan base would worship you...
We know and that's just not how the art works; which dictates the game. You cannot get 3 or 4 scenes within a single release cycle with the art at the level of detail it's at. You can if you make sacrifices with quality though, or have a massive team of artists (which we do not).

There are developers who have went years without a release and don't actively communicate...
Saying that Sad Crab is better than the absolute worst H game devs isn't exactly the slam dunk defense you might think it is.

I would say the current gold standard is MagicNuts who are developing Being a Legend. A two person team creation a renpy game with 2d art. They send out weekly status reports showing an estimation of how much work remains to be done and they have major new releases every few months with a complete story and multiple sex scenes.

New plot is a rewriting stuff for a cohesive story, it's been through multiple writers and we need a single writer to fix all of what's needed. It should end up making the content that's there a lot more sensical.

On the flip side, if you skip the text, this work won't matter all the much...
I'm interested in the story, I find it amusing, I wouldn't skip.

I was trying to figure out if it was better to try the new plot or the old one, or if the new was a rebooted old with same plus new content and if the new is the way to go. If it's missing stuff I'll wait.

I am pretty excited, as the planned summer update should be coming out tomorrow. If nothing has changed, of course, which I really doubt.

So it's not? :WaitWhat:
Not when they're effectively lying to their entire fanbase to keep them placated to whatever degree. The sheer fact that you've chosen to solely reply to this particular statement in my reply with something that is intended to flip the script into making me look ridiculous, instead of tackling the entire statement, and try to debunk everything/anything else I've said. Just proves me right.

You guys are solely milking your patrons, and it's sad that you're willingly taking advantage of people like this.

Because they lack common sense.

It would be one thing if the devs clearly went for speed (and lacked quality) and delivered a shitty update after years.
But it's obvious they are investing a big chunk of time to give quality art with a point-and-click real game feel that they have a clear vision (yes, even if the story writing seems confusing at times, no one is perfect and they are improving it).

Idiots complain and can't even comprehend that the devs aren't developing the game exclusively for them, specially if they aren't contributing with either decent feedback or financing this.

Nowadays, I think most of complains come from "meme status" gained overtime in these forums / communities, that people have seen artists that can't handle being 100% invested in game development, and in the end fail to deliver, or change the scope to something manageable for them.

I think reason is conflict between expectations and reality + long-term frustration. Everybody was awaiting something like Akabur´s Witch Trainer - only BIGGER AND BETTER ... when you look at pateron they are trying to sell you spectacular adventures with sexy witches.

Reality ?
- old school point and click adventure
- tons of minigames and puzzles (not everybody´s cup of tea) + grind
- slow corruption
- nice art (really nice - i mean world class)
- not enough sex (for people who want turn off brain and relax)
- walls of text + story (to be honest they work on it very hard)
- really long development

Conclusion:

Without nice art and interesting/famous setting it would be niche game (because of game mechanics). Now it attract people who want something else and are frustrated ...

Nah man, it's just that most people compare the game's development speed to other games and are able to come to the conclusion that the team behind innocent witches is at best extremely badly managed and at worst outright milking patreons by putting in 10 hour work weeks.

The devs can make as many promises as they want, but even in the past two year, where developement speed has skyrocketed from before (at which point it was non-existant), only 1 sex scene has been implemented every 4-6 months.

For example, iirc last year in december the hermione handjob scene was added and this year that god-awful minerva scene plus the susan titjob was added (both hermione and susan using the same background as the old scene with ginny btw). If you're a 10$-patreon you're paying them almost 120$ to add two, maybe three scenes a year. Something even high quality games (e.g. What a legend) include in a single update plus more (way more in fact).

Of course the art is top notch and way above most other games art quality, but 4-6 months for one scene? Laughable.

Their ability to keep patreons hooked via progress reports is amazing though. It's all empty promises of course, but who keeps count, right? I'm still waiting for the new luna and daphne mini-games that barely didn't make it in a patch maybe a year ago.

But that's it, most of the people here aren't even contributing with any decent and reasonable feedback and want the devs to cave into their specific demands?

What's the goal? They want to side-manage what others spend now in Patreon by "memeing" here that no progress is done in their opinion?
It's clearly not working then, as people fund the development because they still see value in it, even if it's a hobby and the devs can't go full-time for any reason. They can't do everything in an instant with the quality they are obvious spending.

Seems that most don't even understand that 18k isn't nearly enough to go from hobby to fulltime with a team, and at solo it's obvious too much work for one guy.
They end just whining either because they want someone to cave to their specific demands or are jealous their hobby isn't funded by people that see value in it.

Exactly, what they expect complaining in here instead without decent feedback, again and again and also constantly recall Akabur, probably associating his scaling down overtime in game dev to this game too.

Despite the original story setup being similar, and some intentions to go in a certain direction, this has nothing to do with the type of game that the devs seem to be trying to do and is explained in their Patreon.

It's all pointless complaints from people that just seem frustrated, aren't contributing in any meaningful way.
