I do hope it won't come to that. Their decision, but I personally think that they are getting paid well via Patreon with the current setup and their numbers are rising nicely.

Dark Silver tried something similar with Big Brother / Glamour, and I am not sure if it really worked out for him and his team.

So: Joe, we love you, please don't do it..
It's renpy. There is nothing they can code that will keep us out (the language is wide open). Even if they change language, it'll get decompiled or reverse engineered quickly.

DRM is pointless for its intended purpose -- to me, it's just an invitation to have a little fun.

Not so much content and stupid gameplay which can piss off everyone.Who even cares about the plot , that bloody walls of text.Your bets in which year the game will finished? My is 2022.

Guys, guys, guys I think I've got it!

It's a meta-level edge simulator, a social experiment to see how far you can edge a fanbase before they finally give up and move to find release somewhere else. A deep dive into the masochistic tendencies for people to just sit around waiting for relief from abusive creators who keep laying it on thick with hopes to be dashed just as quickly. If I'm right, this could be one of the most amazing social experiments ever crafted in the internet age.

Completely untrue, you can require an online connection at all times and validate people having an active patreon, you could then say make the connection the the server that does that use elliptical curve encryption based on certificates, which you could also hash even further within the game.

Would it be possible to crack? Yes. The question is the breadth of knowledge required to do it and the time required for packet captures and seeing what a good connection does vs a bad one, then emulating it locally.

This is pretty much the reason why online games are the future, all the herp derp, we can just crack it won't happen if the content is never in your hands.

Stadia etc, the pirating crowd will die a slow death.

If you think I am joking, who hear has CD's and MP3's still? All things will move to the cloud, it's entirely inevitable.

(also, I'm not personally for DRM, but it's the same concept, it's an invitation to have a little fun)

This is going to get interesting I tell ya.
Someone will figure out how to connect to the servers get the content, rip it, and distribute it locally probably. It will quickly move in the territory of risks associated with pirating and distributing movies, with groups of people in other countries doing the dirty work.

It will only get weird if they start using custom silicone and OS's on the back end that make it impossible to run the games on locally.

pirating crowd will never die.
If you give costumers a good service for a "good price" people will pay for it.
with spotify for $10 you can have tens of thousands of hours of music, thats why people does'nt hear to cds anymore.
with netfix for $15 you can watch thousands of movies, thats why people does'nt watch to dvds anymore.

if next moth every streaming platform start charging everyone $15000 a month , people will start downloading movies.

if games start to cost $2000 each , they will crack it.

The more people believe that the price is unfair, the greater the possibility that they are trying to crack it.

That's just the thing, piracy is already back on the rise. It was only waning because of the existence of Netflix. Now that every major content provider is all "Subscribe to our streaming service... it has like six things on it... But they're ours and we get all the money. $15 a month." piracy is on the uptick because so many people stopped pirating specifically due to the huge amount of content from varied content providers that Netflix had. We don't want to go back to overpriced cable, so we go back to piracy. It is highly unlikely that this won't happen with gaming as well. Nintendo, Sony, and Microsoft will all either have their own streaming service or will still full on sell games digitally for download since vast swaths of the world do not have the reliable internet necessary for streaming. None of this is a valid defense for shoving DRM into a porn game.

All valid, you guys are thinking about now though, 20-30 years from now though, Starlink, LEO satellites and such, internet should be quite ubiquitous. I do agree, you get raped 100 different ways from subscription services, but that's where the money is at.

So... Joe finally came here.
Not to apologise, not to share some news related to the upcoming update. Instead, he just decided to answer to DMC subject.
Does it really necessary to show everyone your incompetence every single time? We knew for a long time that you're incompetent as a game dev, but give yourself a chance to be at least a proper community manager. And let me give you a hint: your current responses in this thread is not the right way to do it.

People are always ready to pay for a quality product. People are ready to support with a coin those who put efforts in things they do. I have my copys of Warcraft 3 RoC / TFT on my b.net account. Although I could simply download those from torrents. Same with other tons of my games / films / music. I even donate to content creators on YT and to a few streamers on Twitch even though I don’t even have to do it. I'm just convinced that this is one of the ways i can say "thank you for giving me an opportunity to enjoy all of this stuff and i appreciate it".
But you know what? Im never going to pay you guys a cent.

Seems liked I sparked quite an argument here. Cloud is undoubtedly the future, but personally, I doubt that the majority of the indie game devs here will bother to secure their work with some fancy NAS-encryption-tech-online-thingy any time soon. For most, it is a passion and a hobby, which hopefully pays back a bit. There are online adult games right now, but I believe those to attract a totally different audience..
Of course devs are sometimes upset when their game is released only hours later on a site like this one, but on the other hand this is a way to attract future paterons. I know I became Patreon after I liked a game a few updates in a row.

But, if Joe is right and this does inevitably become a trend, casual adult gamers like myself are out. don't want to be logged and traced any more than I need to be. By the way, this ain't my real pic in the profile either.. ;-)

You mean like lesson of passion games. Just search for it on this forum. It has been 2 years and still no crack. We occasionally get CGI rip but that is it. It is just the question how wiling are you to inconvenience your costumers and they are willing. And judging by this thread do not pull on that chain :-D

The stadia thing will slow us down for a bit, then frameworks will be built to combat that. At the end of the day, it's all just ones and zeros, and we, with our constantly expanding knowledge, can read it like a book.

The breadth of knowledge required to implement stadia-like systems will be prohibitive to the small studios (though, no doubt, google will build frameworks to make it easier).

As for piracy dying a slow death ...

LOL.

(and we're getting way off-topic)

Developers have only ever gotten shit for implementing DRM's into their games. Look at Bigbrother/Glamour, insane huge backlash because they set up DRM system which of cause sends traffic to somewhere in mother fucker Russia. Even if he is still popular the guy behind those games, a lot of people just jumped ship instantly because of this, and same for new people finding the game.
Or "Luna in the tavern" where you could not save the game if you where on the free version in the beginning, not sure how it is now.
But damn sure, if you want to upset 1/3 of your own community(perhaps more idk) go for DRM, in the end you wont accomplish anything. Somebody will will just fix an offline version after downloaded all the content, perhaps it will be x amount of days and weeks behind the official release. But that is about what you will accomplish, a small delay.
Better chance for scaring away people if you ask me, and wasting an insane amount of development time to implement this(where that time could and should have gone to the game).

Apologize for what? I am not beholden to anyone, I work for free, of my own free will. I get paid nothing, you aren't entitled to literally anything from me, patron or not.

My incompetence comes with a cheap price tag at least. :HideThePain:
