It would help if everyone would stop trying to egg each other on. The dev needs to understand that this sort of sudden swing in development after already setting a precedent will result in blowback. Everyone else needs to keep in mind that it's the dev's decision what direction he or she wants to take this project, not anyone else's, and stop trying pick a fight. We, dev included, get it; it's not what everyone else wants to see happen, but it isn't up to anyone but the dev. It's one thing to report constructive critisism and offer suggestions and feedback. It's another to poke holes in the developer's decision to remodel the game.
