If genetics didn't work like that then the food crops we have would still be the wild, natural variety. There also wouldn't be two hundred bajillion different weed strains for sale now in California. Not to mention dog breeds.as Trem said, genetics and evolution doesn't work like that. Read up on a dude named Lamarck and his discredited theory on the topic.

Modification to produce desired traits in plants, animals, and microbes used for food began about 10,000 years ago. These changes, along with natural evolutionary changes, have resulted in common food species that are now genetically different from their ancestors.
Edit: Cool experiment I saw watching PBS show Dogs that Changed the World. In Siberia they started breeding wild foxes selecting only for tameness. In like 2 generations they started barking, playing with toys etc. This vid has more about it. Just for fun.
