I just remembered something, in the latest blog post i believe Nyx mentioned working on a small phone call scene that for some reason needed 5(at least i think it was 5) variations.
And then she releases this preview of Val in a phone call with the MC...

1-Val on a relationship
2-Val not in a relationship, but still had her encounter with Ethan
3-No relationship, no bumping into Ethan
4-Val not a friend(would she still call?)

I'm drawing blank for more...

Well I guess it's more Val dating or not dating. If she has met Ethan or not.
It could be that she's calling to talk about his suspension and they talk about training for the relay and getting together for that. Another small variation could be that you chose Tori and not Layla as the fourth. Another variation is obviously if you actually punched Zach or just pushed him.

Well I guess it's more Val dating or not dating. If she has met Ethan or not.
It could be that she's calling to talk about his suspension and they talk about training for the relay and getting together for that. Another small variation could be that you chose Tori and not Layla as the fourth. Another variation is obviously if you actually punched Zach or just pushed him.

A lot of the Val variations feel like they could be covered with just having a few slightly alternative lines in the script rather than needing different scenes. Still think the 5 scenes are short calls with different characters and you get whichever ones you need on your route. Something like:

If Alexis doesn't know about the blackmail > Call and tell her
If Melissa doesn't know (can she not know about it?) > Tell her
If Val didn't help MC with Ethan > Warn her about him
Maybe call John depending on whether you punched Ethan at the club or stuck with the plan?
That kind of thing, I'm sure there are others I haven't thought of...

It would get all the characters in the story onto the same page no matter what route you're on going into the final part of the blackmail plot.

It also crossed my mind that Val might call to cancel the emo party. But if we get the invitation, that means we’re in a relationship with her (officially or not), so calling to cancel would be pretty lame. For me, it’s something related to the tournament. I’ll keep standing by the fact that Ethan didn’t do anything wrong to Val.

Nyx did say in the same blog that the party is one of the things on her schedule(before the party she's gonna work on a mysterious scene with an unnanounced character).
So even if Val is having second thoughts about the party, i believe there will be a way to keep it.

I've never done a run where I didn't help Erynn with the blackmail, never have the heart to not help. Does the stuff between Ethan and Val change if you're not involved with the blackmail plot? That might need a different phone call?

Although I think in the update Nyx said that it was a small phone call that turned into 5 scenes to bring all the different routes to the same point. She didn't specifically say they were all variants of the same call, she just said that doing the first call made her think of other scenes she needed to do. The part about bringing all the different routes to the same point, I read it as being a few calls / talks with different people to get them all to the same point in the story depending on your route.

If you don't help Erynn, there's no need for Val to rescue you from Ethan because he simply let's you go, he and his goons don't attack you... she doesn't meet him there, she never gets on his radar.
Ethan also never meets John because you aren't helping Erynn against him, so the plot for John to pose as a businessman never kicks off.
And yeah i get it, i don't even have this save anymore, too disgusting for me to keep it.

Could be, maybe different characters reach out depending on your choices.

the logic makes sense to me about multiple variations, but I can hardly think of 5 either. Maybe the Zach punch not punch is one of them, potentially the track stuff too depending if it's Layla or Tori? Those could come up in the discussion.

I did think of a possible number 5, maybe she finds out from Layla that you didn't break up with Alexis.
It's not unrealistic... but i do hope it's something better than Val finding out off screen.

Doesn't seem like that's the version shown in these previews, she seems fairly calm (she's in a pensative mood, but calm) while the MC is angry, if it is the "you lied to me" i think it would be the other way around.

Yeah, it's possible to not date Val, but still get the Ethan scene... if she rescued you instead of John... Val bumping into Ethan will trigger.
Even if for whatever reason the relationship died since.
I did include that on my list already.

The other things, Tori, Zach... We'll have to wait and see exactly what causes these variations.

I don't think it's gonna be John because we spend time with him earlier in the day.
I know one can always do a "hey John i forgot to tell you..." but come on, it's unnecessary, the things we need to tell John will be said to directly to his face.

Yeah, there's a phone call, we don't know if it's always with the same person, maybe it is, maybe it isn't...
Choices you made cause this call to play out differently.
And we suspect Val is at least one of the callers (or the only).

Val could be calling about other stuff, team practices, keeping you updated... and then the conversation goes toward Ethan stuff or Zach stuff...

So far we've seen Erynn do her usual morning visit, him visit college and see Lexi and maybe Erynn, bump into Lakeyn, have another phone call with Layla and Elena and then go on a bike ride with John.
We know that the emo date with Val is coming up, which of course I'm looking forward to. I'm hoping that the next day will be more eventful and exciting.
It's not like episode 13 which was absolutely packed with things to be excited about.

Nyx, stop whining. Isn't that enough for you? We see Alexis - It's great. Erynn's visit in the morning is great again. Motorcycle rides with Johnny are also great. Val date - great and i'm still waiting for Tori

This day has been filled with "random stuff", stop by MSU(could be interesting if it's a scene that allow us to play Alexis vs Erynn), go for a ride with John, now the MC is at the gym... might still go to the movies... he's doing a lot with his free time.
Scenes that give a sense of real world maybe, day in the life, but don't really excite.

The Val party is still coming and the "legendary" mysterious scene that has been in her back pocket for 2.5 years(so it must be big).
BTW: I don't think the party is gonna be fully canceled since Nyx mentioned it still being on her schedule as of the last blog post, but maybe we can see Val having second thoughts, struggling with Zach+Ethan, but it will still gonna be there.

Hopefully the second day focuses on big emotionally heavy scenes instead of having the MC just going around and "doing stuff".
She has to progress the Ethan plot(since it's close to the end), maybe day 2 will be about this.

Yeah, those might not have all been good examples, was just off top of head. Agree that John doesn't really make sense. For Melissa I seem to remember that you can encourage Erynn to tell her? I couldn't remember if it was possible for Erynn not to tell Melissa about it.

Either way, agree Val is definitely one of the calls based on the previews. I could believe there are a couple of different Val scenes based on major path differences, so the 5 scenes might not necessarily all be different people. But to me different scenes implies having to make different renders, not just a few slight script changes to the same scene. I just can't see the need for 5 different phone call scenes just for Val.

I'm guessing there are at least a few people you call though, even if not five. They might not all be important, I think some might be more about Nyx just making her life easier going forward. So telling Alexis about the blackmail for example might not necessarily mean that Alexis is important in resolving that plot. It might just make things easier if she doesn't have to always do alternative dialog for Alexis knowing / not knowing and tripping herself up on a mess of which characters know what.

The first time I played I didn't get the bike. I hadn't read much about the game and I'd been conditioned by other VNs to expect that if I was too nice to Emily I'd end up sleeping with her. I didn't want to have sex with my in-game mum so wasn't that nice to her...

It was a relief when I realised that this wasn't that type of game and I could safely be kind to Emily!

Fair enough, I didn't really follow the updates so closely back then and that does make more sense. It feels like there are more variations on the MC-Layla-Elena relationships than just MC-Val, and I still think there might be a couple of calls to different people, but it's interesting to know Nyx's history with this stuff. We'll have to wait and see I guess!
