I have to disagree with you here. MC has spoken to Zach a few times and given him hints. Zach just doesn't get it. There was the conversation at Heaven's when they were there with Elena and Layla, the scolding when Zach behaved badly towards Elena in the cafeteria, the conversation by the pool, the conversation on the stairs at school, and so on and so forth. Zach, however, is someone who doesn't understand anything at all. His entire behavior is, at best, preschool-level. It was never mentioned in the game, but I'm pretty sure the reason Zach had to change schools at the time was because he was expelled for inappropriate behavior towards girls.
Zach is written to be a fucking idiot, there's nothing to be analyzed there. The MC too is written as an idiot just in a different way.

WTF?

Zach is a pretty bad friend to MC

Zach wants him to spy on girls like they're 12

MC gives very minimal advice because Zach doesn't listen to anyone who isn't trying to poison him

I’m not saying Zach is a saint, and I’m not justifying his actions in any way. What I mean is that, at least when it comes to MC, Zach has always shown genuine friendship. For example he immediately recognized MC when he arrived at the school, let him sleep at his place, and is always available for him.

MC, on the other hand, has been a bad friend. For instance, when Miguel draws a penis on Zach’s face, a good friend would have stopped it or at least told Zach as soon as possible. Instead MC just watched as Zach made a fool of himself in front of Gabi (she even laughed).

but he's not a friend though. when you meet him at the beginning of the game, you have the choice to "not recognize him"
which means they were in the same class or the same age a few years back , and they had a vague cordial relationship without being particularly friends , and the zach , seeing a familiar face that he hasn't seen in while decides to hang with MC (probably because he's ostracized because he's an idiot and a dick . and no one wants to hangout with him, he's the burden of the classroom most likely, there's always one)

which frankly is perfectly realistic behaviour and interaction . sometimes you hang with people in HS just because you were with them one class prior and knew vaguely their face , and not because you were friends .

also explains why in uni or superior classes, generally people coming from the same high school hangout together and you have clans based on which high school you come from.

I'd say zach was a vague acquaintance of MC , nothing more.

Is this really bad behavior though? My buddy would 100% call it out and drag me over to a bigger group so everyone could see that I’ve got a dick drawn on my face. Zach is an idiot, plain and simple

That was harmless fun between teenagers.
The problem with those kinds of jokes is that once they’re accepted, they gradually start going further and further, always being justified as "harmless fun" It’s funny at first, but not so much when the joke is turned back on you or taken even further.

Saying “all bets are off” is just an excuse. Being a friend means stepping in or at least telling him afterward. Doing nothing is still a choice.

Just because you would laugh about it doesn’t make it okay for everyone. Respect isn’t defined by the loudest guy in the room.

Just because I'm someone's friend and again Zach is more like an acquaintance then someone I would count as a friend, doesn't mean I'm not stopping this and laughing.

How the Fuck is anyone defending Zach?
Me as a free thinking individual say it would absolutely not be my responsibility to teach this " friend" how to be a normal human.
When I was late teens early 20s bet your ass that dude would be on my fuck right off list, even more now that I am grown.
I swear I am glad ill die before seeing what happens when these snowflakes run the world

Sure, and after those few times where MC made a token effort, he starts instead to shit on the guy in his own thoughts and badmouth him together with the girls instead of maybe, i don't know, try to explain in some detail why Zach's behavior is wrong, rather than simply tell him what amounts to "don't do that [because i tell you]" or as you put it, give him hints. Since i'm saying that MC isn't acting like a good friend with Zach and you are disagreeing on this matter with me, then let me ask you this -- what exactly in MC's behavior towards Zach that we can see throughout the game makes you believe the MC is Zach's good friend...?

That was harmless fun between teenagers.
And yet you can bet if it was MC who ended up with dick on his face and Zach was laughing at him instead of telling them, people here would be bringing this up as strong evidence of how much of a dick Zach was towards the MC. :sneaky:

That's a "who are you" sort of joke. MC instantly corrects himself afterwards and reveals that he does in fact recognize Zach. IIRC he also tells the girls when they ask, that him and Zach go way back. At no point he's seriously acting like he isn't close with the guy, not even in his internal monologues. And he sure gets pissed at Zach for "being a bad friend" and rambles about it repeatedly after Zach turns on him. Hardly a reaction of distant acquaintance.

I mean, why would he need to explain decent fucking human behavior to the guy? Well, I suppose he is a fucking idiot. So yeah, good point  Seriously, he is just written there as a bad plot device, nothing more, why would anyone argue about him. It!s not like Nyx is a genius author that will surprise us at any point, all of her "cliffhangers" thus far have been fucking obvious.

I don't think MC consider himself as a good friend of Zach. Zach is just a friend, not more. MC has made an effort to tolerate Zach's idiocy. Normal people would have made it clear to Zach early on that he's as dumb as a pack of cucumbers and should piss off. It's not MC's job to teach an 18-year-old social skills. At that age, Zach should know better and pick up on the more than obvious hints from those around him.

Ah Well, I haven't played the game in half a year, and played a lot of other VNs inbetween, they tend to blend together at some point.

but the vibe I got from Zach, is the same as Derek in BaDik, except Derek was actually a great guy below the goofy surface.

OK, so if MC himself doesn't consider himself a good friend of Zach, why are people here acting like simply stating as much, that MC isn't acting like a good friend of Zach, like some sort of crime against humanity that must be disagreed with and debated at lenght?
