I think it'll be interesting to see if automated translation tools like Google translate will ever get to the point where someone can plug in a story with dialog written in Turkish or something, including slang, would ever end up being translated into a format that actually sounds like something a real person would say in another language. I suspect there will always be pieces that are lost in translation. If there's some cultural thing on one side that just doesn't exist on the other side then it's just going to be lost. Some sort of cultural thing or inside joke or whatever.
But I do think it could eventually get to the point where a sort of sanitized, non slang translation actually makes sense even when there's no direct translation.
