Its not overly intuitive and took me a bit to figure out. Click on 'interact' in the dungeon to get the menu with the types of characters. It looks blank. But click at the top of the black box, possibly on the little white square in the upper left to get a drop down list

You need to plant the seed next to a wild boar and it will turn into Bovine Essence.

Talk to the dryad, get a living seed. Use the living seed near a wild boar to get essence.

Also, giving the Dryad dead seeds will help
