Then what would be the point of the Raven Crown?
I mean, 1 item is like the
least important consideration here. If that's the sticking point though, off the top of my head: "makes X spark worth of casting a turn free". Stays in line with buffing magic skills/auspex.
I don't think a beginner is that interested in seeing the rates of aura stats; I'd infer that most beginners play without looking much at the aura to begin with ^^
This is just a bad take, unless "beginners" in your mind are only people who play for 5 hours and then never again. Literally on this very page we see someone understandably confused about devotion and: "The slave already gains devotion passively in the tutorial so after a decade or so she's willing to do most things even if you've completely mismanaged her training". The beginner's guide advocates save scumming contracts because of the learning cliff (no shade on the person that wrote it). I could go on.
Devotion in general is the most frustrating stat, there are long periods where you can't even be sure it's going up. I, personally, would have never bothered completing the tutorial if the debug info wasn't there to help me understand what was happening with devotion, despair, and mood.

actually working out how to train the slave organically
Hiding whether a stat is improving or degrading isn't 'organic', it's just obtuse.

From my own experience, the debug menu really doesnt help if you dont already know whats what in this game.
My experience is different. And many of the people who enjoy management-type games, like me, appreciate intelligible data and feedback.
