So good news and potentially really bad news.

Good news: Yana wins, so Jack finally gets to animate.

Ah crap news: the tech issue I mentioned earlier appears to be worse. Tl:dr power issues have messed up his drives, which if they’re unable to be recovered, would pretty much set back all of MW3’s progression, along with other things.
How bad is the set back? Is it "have-to-basically-start-all-over" bad?

Jackerman must have practically nothing of MW3 already made, in fact this thing will only launch next year. 2022 is lost to MW3
Just because there aren’t visual previews doesn’t mean there wasn’t work being done modeling wise.

To quote: “I will be ok if it is gone for good, but it will be a major setback. MW3 sets all gone, the majority of WIP characters, and a lot of records.”

I'm pretty confused at that statement, it seems to contradict itself, but whatever, if Jackerman himself said it's no big deal then I will take his word for it, but it's probably not not going to be release this year though.

I can’t speak for him, but I’d think by those words that it would suck to lose it all, but it’s not the end of the world if it happens.

But as I said it’ll depend on whomever he takes the drives to to see if the data can be saved. Could just be a minor speed bump.

He did also mention definitely investing in backups for the future.

We'll just have to be patient for mw3 my dudes. Good things takes time and we don't know how busy jackerman is aside from the animations maybe he's also busy with something else so let's not try to pressure him.

If I had a nickel every time an artist made something big, got popular, then the virolent fanbase demands the sequel in a faster timeframe…

Suddenly all the stories about crunch and pressure for films and video games make way more sense.
For films and games the crunch is more from the producers who are financing it and the people who can set deadlines for the directors/game devs etc. These artists have no deadlines and they are still making money hand over fist. They are their own boss, and as long as the money keeps coming in then I doubt they let fan-demand stress them out.

Anyways, I really like the shaking car shots in Southern Hospitality. It's like this teaser, and it really builds up my anticipation of what I'm about to see. I hope he does more of that.

see ya kinda got it, then lost it. I rather doubt any of these animators are making ‘hand over fist’ money. Y’all seem to forget things like food, clothes, insurance, and a roof over your head tends to be where money goes. It doesn’t equal more porn faster.

and the comparison is still very much valid, as producers and shareholders just love pushing for results asap to make a quarterly earnings report. Which in this case, is equivalent to the people that would rather Jack shelve everything else and only work on MW, because they’re so eager to get their next nut, they can’t consider not wanting to burn out on one giant project, and having variety in their work.

The monthly thing is hurting his work. It limits his animations in both length and scope and prevents him from working on Mothers Warmth. He should really change to a different system.
1) there's no evidence that the monthlies somehow prevent progression on MW. Just because he isn't posting monthly updates on the thing, doesn't mean it isn't being worked on. You'd know if you were still part of the discord, but given what I heard about you, that's for the better.

2) Even if he weren't taking gold supporter nominations, it would still be entirely his choice to animations with his other OC's. No animator wants to work with a limited set of characters their whole career. The variety prevents the dullness that comes with doing the same thing over and over. And all the lessons he learns doing shorter animations can be applied to longer ones like MW.

It is so easy to look from the outside and say 'well they should just do more of that one thing that made them popular in the first place'. But that creates complacency, and doesn't really leave room to grow as an artist.

Well I was a gold sub of his from the beginning of his content all the way up to early this year. So I think I might know what I am talking about. He has to work himself to death to make each monthly and cut content that he wants to put in because the window is so small for an animation so detailed and done by one person. Of course its his choice to continue in the same fashion but its obvious that it does limit his work due to the timeframe.

can’t tell if you’re just being super sarcastic or a super dick. Not everyone does backups, that’s a typical thing you’d expect for companies, not an individual animator.
No sorry that is incorrect. Anyone with a brain who puts hours into creating something on a computer makes backups regularly. I make PMVs / HMVs and I always have my progress on 3 separate hard drives. I don't know if he was just careless... But I also wouldn't be surprised at all if he made it up to keep subscribers from being upset that he hasn't done much work lately. Obviously there is absolutely no way to know. Jackerman can literally say what he wants as there is no way to disprove it. Considering he was able to come out with MW2 relatively quickly during a period when he was very busy... I can't believe that anything substantial has been created for MW3 at this point. So if he says THIS is what is causing MW3 to not come out this year, I have to call bullshit. It sounds more like an excuse to justify what he had already planned to do rather than a reason. And before anyone points it out... No I am not a subscriber and this is one of the reasons why I am not.

You only know what he tells you. He can tell you anything he wants and you will never really know anything.

I thought the exact same thing when I read this fantastic story of someone who's hard drive is possibly gone with all that hard work and didn't back it up.

From what I'm reading, the guy has a lot going on, it's a lot of pressure, and in his position, if I didn't do the work, I couldn't simply say I didn't do the work, so I'd come up with something like this. Is it ethical? No, but it'll get people off my back for a bit so I can get my shit in order as far as work/life/jackerman duties.

As you and others have said, we'll never know, but I really don't think it's wild to imagine this could just be something said to delay it. It's really strange to not back up your work, especially because he makes some money off it, it's a job, and you wouldn't want to fuck with it by not doing the basic thing of backing up your work.

It's just strange that there's people willing to just buy this without being a little curious how someone who pours hundreds of hours into his work doesn't make sure it's backed up and doesn't get lost. And the whole 'no big deal' is if it's lost tells me it's not really lost, and he'll get some extra time making people think he's working on it while taking care of other business and then he can release it when he has more time.

I'm saying all of this but I'm not mad at the guy if that's what he's doing, it seems to be a crap-ton of work, and I don't think he can honestly say, 'hey guys, I'm fucking swamped so I need a break', so this is one way to do it.

...Or he really lost his hard drive, in which case that's moronic for someone that's been doing this for a while and makes money from it. So dumb it's just that hard to believe, but crazier things have happened.

Hmmm... I don't recall seeing anything you have created.

And before anyone points it out... No I am not a subscriber and this is one of the reasons why I am not.
Now that is what I call bullshit.
