I hope so, but I hope it's a little presentable already at that point too! I assume I might want to do one last set of tweaks after it's out everywhere, but we shall see. :)
The game has been quite presentable from the very beginning. You seem to take so much care of details, I don't see how it could be any different. Judging by the sample images, I think you don't have much to worry about. Looking forward to it!

I'm playing with the idea of supporting games on Patreon too (I have some... qualms about the whole idea in general, though). If I start doing this, your game will be one of the first I'll support.

Thank you, she was hard to make as a character too! I think she is a combo of six different models!
I have to agree sis_fan is gorgeous. The way she looks at whatever she's looking at has so many possibilities, so many hidden emotions... I can't wait to see her as it were "in real life."

Thanks! I understand the Patreon stuff too. It took me about 6-8 months after first discovering these types of games to make a jump. I was actually worried about privacy and my card so I got a separate Internet credit card just for this kind of thing so I can track it easily, etc. I currently support I think ten overall games, but honestly, on some I tend to do a lower amount on non-update months, then jump up and do a larger support on releases. This way, I can support more overall devs I love, although with a few I really donate hard because I worry the game isn't getting enough support and that it's just an amazing game that in my opinion is not supported enough. (my example for this for me is Ataegina, I think it's a fantastic game and support it with a higher monthly amount than most)

You're very welcome! I understand the idea of wanting to support a game you love, and I share the interest in Ataegina, a wonderful game I found out about thanks to you (together with Stationmaster and City of Broken Dreamers, other two surprising gems). It is even more meaningful to me because Kthulian is apparently from Portugal, and my family is of Brazilian Portuguese descent (Portuguese was one of the languages we spoke at home while I was growing up in Texas); Ataegina or Atégina is even the name of an old pre-Roman goddess of ancient Lusitania in the Iberian peninsula... It is unfortunate that the game isn't femdom-oriented, but everything else about it is just so good!

Long story short, having seen some discussions on/by Patreon supporters, I got the impression that many Patreon projects end up being "art-by-committee," with the developer being submerged by polls that decide what is going to happen to what character -- and, to me, this is a recipe for artistic disaster, so I didn't want to support it. But many people here (e.g., recently, MatteDolce, the developer of Android Life) have said things that make me want to change my mind.

I haven't tried it yet, but this sounds like a game that I'll love after a few more updates when the dom path gets fleshed out. Love the idea of the "turning the tables" aspect.

After I did 0.1, I kind of found myself questioning if I was thinking too much about the concerns of other people (mostly this was on the issue of how dark to make the game only) and decided to just stick with what I like. I like using polls for a lot for the extra content on Patreon (4k wallpapers, non-canon scenes, extra pictures, that kind of thing) but not for the actual story as I think that's a bad route to take personally. The other issue - besides the darkness of the game - I struggle with is I feel like I can't go all out writing what I would call too much of a high brow style as I worry it just doesn't fit a porn game at all. I paid for most of my schooling with writing a historical romance script set in the late 1890s in Hawaii! That's about as far off from this game as I can imagine in a lot of ways! So for this game, both versions I have cut some stylistic elements of how I usually write and a lot of dialogue (in 0.1 from 24k to 18,500 words and for 0.2 from about 30,000 to 24,000 words) but I think later I might do an "Extended Cut" or something, (lol) when it's all over just for the heck of it.

I have family in Texas (Highland Park & Austin) so pretty familiar with it. I really love Kthulian's game and hope it takes off.

A wise decision. If the author doesn't do what s/he likes, the consumers usually get something they won't like much either. How dark... It's like asking how detailed Tolkien should have been about Middle Earth, its history, religions, languages, etc. Many have argued that, though worldbuilding is good, he clearly exaggerated and should have focused more on plot, story, character arcs... As a lover of the Silmarillion, I disagree. I think he did what he wanted, and I (and a number of other Lord-of-the-Rings nerds) are extremely happy he did. Maybe some (many?) people will look at the bulk and detail and say "this is not for me," but there is nothing wrong that. Tolkien wasn't writing because he wanted EVERYBODY to enjoy his work; this is impossible. But he did the best with what he wanted to do (I think even: BECAUSE he did what he wanted to do), and those who enjoy what he did enjoy it so much more because of that. Going as dark as you want, as you are comfortable with, means being fully invested in the tale you're telling, and this investment will... scintillate like a giant emerald under the desert sun, attracting with its disturbing colors and uncanny light beams caravans and dervishes (as an oasis attracts thirsty voyagers) who will one day write one more tale for Scheherazade to tell her King Shahryah about how Allah in his infinite wisdom and compassion led those men to Aladdin's cave where they found a treasure they had never even dreamed existed...

Aaand... since there are multiple endings, you can always make some of them happy endings, so those who don't like the dark can follow the path of light. There's no dishonor in that!

It's always good to consider who your audience is, but in the end... why are you creating a game? To please as many people as possible? To make them be nice in their judgment of you and your work? That's a risky endeavor... I hope your reason is something else.

I think "porn" as a label is taken to imply "dumbed down" -- i.e., there are only knuckle-dragging troglodytes consuming "porn," so if I use long words they just won't get it and will get mad because I didn't give them the endless orgies they crave. And I'm sure there are lots of people who look up porn just because of the, well, pretty pictures and aren't really looking for immortal prose. Still... I think "porn" is a form of art (I don't buy the "porn" vs. "erotica" dichotomy) and people can feel that good art satisfies them more than formulaic, I've-seen-this-a-thousand-times-before art. Especially in the case of certain niches like femdom: note how important femdom stories actually are (as opposed to simple femdom pictures or videos -- the latter usually struggling to capture the atmosphere of even the average femdom story). True, we're still waiting for the Shakespeare of porn (or even femdom), but I don't think that, when s/he comes, nobody will pay attention. Quite the opposite, actually.

So I don't think that "porn game" and "high brow writing" are incompatible. Again, some people may be put off, but how many actually? Especially in a story-friendly niche like femdom? I even wonder if you ever made the experiment of asking, say, your Patreon supporters what they thought about some text that you enjoyed writing but considered too "high brow" for the game: if you ever did this, did they dislike the style? Did they say it would be better to stick to, say, more popular tropes? And if you didn't, would you be willing to try? You could even give them the "high brow" text you wrote and a "low brow" equivalent that you think might fit a porn game better. Do you think they would agree? It is, after all, another way to get input from your followers. If they really don't like it, you could always do as you planned and keep the texts for a later "Extended Cut"... but maybe you'll be surprised by how popular good writing, high or low brow, can be.

I'm more familiar with the Galveston-Houston area, but I went to Austin a couple of times (I even gave a lecture at UT-Austin once). A very beautiful city. Hawai'i, on the other hand, I have never seen, and I know next to nothing about it. A historical novel in 1890's Hawai'i is about as far away from my areas of expertise as humanly possible... I hope you enjoyed writing it, though.

I'm mostly of the mind that some dialogue I wrote for some characters felt unnatural given their backstory and personality and their place in this world more than anything else. I'll always write for myself over anyone else, but if I don't like something, I won't use it. I felt I was writing more as myself projecting as a narrator then their characters a lot if you get where I am coming from...thanks for the detailed input. :)

Ooh, that's a different problem. Not using something that you didn't like is part of the craft. Something may need writing and rewriting a dozen times before it feels right. And it is difficult to "inhabit" the mind of a character who may be remarkably different from you -- it takes time. (Kundera once wrote that one good way to get a clearer feel for a character is to imagine him/her doing normal things or reacting to normal situations. What would Samantha like to have for breakfast, and how would she eat it? How would Elena watch a movie? Which cartoon character did Olivia enjoy the most as child, and what did she look like watching it? What kind of meal would Juliette enjoy cooking and eating? What could make Dominique cry, or laugh, and how would it happen? If you can, in your imagination, make one of these situations (or similar ones) happen in a way that would make intuitive sense for a character, so that it satisfies you ('yeah, that is what she would do/like'), then the character becomes more familiar, more understandable, more human, easier to play with.

In the end, I just hope you're having as much fun making Karlsson's Gambit as we are playing it. If having a Patreon is ultimately like that, then maybe I'll end up supporting developers there.

In the end it is pretty simple. If people don't support these games financially, there hardly would be any games like that to play. This is especially true for femdom games. When I first discovered "adult" games, they were purely hobby projects and there were only around 2 dozen games you could pick from. Thanks to Patreon (even though I don't like their political agenda) these types of game have exploded in numbers now.
I currently support 7 games on Patreon, 5 of them heavily and 2 partly femdom oriented. Just set yourself a limit per month you stick too, so you won't go too "crazy". Unless you are into findom, then by all means best to choose Tess as Mistress then.;)

Well if there is a critique I would have concerning dialogue, it's that some things which were said out loud, sounded more like stuff people would just think to themselves. Maybe incorporate some more inner dialogue? Probably an easier and more natural way to explain the motivation of characters and also include more narrative exposition without sounding out of place.

So let's see. You don't think that Patreon led to developers catering too much to the whims of their patrons? (One thing I notice among "adult" games is the number of projects, Patreon or not, that ended up being abandoned. I sometimes wondered if being discouraged at Patreon had something to do with it.)
