I don't know why Patreon started escalating in the past two-three years, or why they stopped turning a blind eye to things they politely ignored unless they had no choice due to other people's actions... but this is not exactly a new thing.

Plenty of banks and money handling services do not want to be associated with certain aspects of the adult industry. They put pressure on places like Patreon, and even actual adult sites like Nutaku, to conform to certain rules in terms of content. It's why Nutaku almost never got off the ground back in the day, and why early on their selection of games was so ridiculously limited it was not even funny.

However, something definitely changed a while back. Probably ownership somewhere close too, if not right at the top, and that led to the current situation.

Additionally, it's not just adult-content-creators that are having a hard time... which makes it even more strange because it doesn't look like there's a clear unifying theme about why this is happening.

It's a real shame since no doubt he's going to probably lose a huge chunk of financial support by switching platforms. Both people who can't be bothered to subscribe again on a new service and people who get a chance to rethink if they want to keep backing when they'd otherwise just been letting Patreon charge them every month passively. Hopefully it doesn't negatively affect the game. Also, while I don't know if they would have really reached the goal(probably not, they set it for like double the current Patreon income), it seems like getting a voice actress for the game and whatnot is probably out the window for sure now, since low chance they can reach whatever amount they wanted to hire one using the new site if they couldn't already with Patreon.

That said, still hope Rem and Sachinama do well on the new site, both for the sake of us getting the game we want and them getting the support they need. Especially Rem, since best wishes to his health for keeping watch that his cancer doesn't come back. And having had cancer makes the Corona virus more of a risk to him as well, so hopefully he stays in good shape. Having cancer scares and still choosing to translate and make hentai games for people's enjoyment as his job, that has to make him a saint of some sorts.

Thanks a ton for the writeup mamaboiii, I had a feeling you were still around. I'll take a poke around there and see if I can effect the change I'm after.

OTOH there's people like me, who don't want to support Patreon because of the shite they're pulling against an already marginalised sex industry. I'm very happy to support this game on Subscribestar if it proves to work out for them.

it sucks he's switching off patreon, but at the same time if it was going to affect the game's creative liberty then it's for the best.

Companies that hit the mainstream have never liked being associated with porn, particulary the weirder kinds. Nothing new under the sun there.

Sucks, but I'm still excited about v06

It's not Companies only, this mindset reside in the individuals as well. I have seen plenty of artists, modders, once they managed to get into the spotlight (and that big chunk of money), they took down every single r18 creations they did in the past, threw them in the waste basket, thus betraying their old fans to greet and stisfy the new sjw market.
When asked why they did that, it's always the same catchphrase: I'm a professional now, those are just dumb things I did in the past blah blah blah... meh

Well yeah, what else are they going to do, risk losing jobs/comissions and money then? Just because you don't care doesn't mean others don't

"Yeah fuck you, I love my money, my profile must be clean, thank for the long years of support, now fuck off, got plenty of new sjw dicks to suck"
Feel like a slap in the face, and not for the first time either.

It's almost like it's not a hobby anymore, but a full time job where they make all of their money.

you think sjws and not conservatives are the anti sex work people? really?

you think progressive millennial sjws own the financial institutions that are pushing this shit? really?

when adult games make a shit ton of money thats when the rules will change, just like video games were a joke before they saw the profits of mobile gaming, esports etc

but this games been skirting patreon rules for a while, sucks in the short term hopefully better in the long

So what you're saying is that the developers should add micropayments to the games, such as new clothing or some gear to make the game easier.
That's how many of the big money grabbing games are making their bucks.
Such as Dota 2, Fortnite, CS-GO, LoL, they all make a lot of money from just people buying cosmetics in the game.
And I think this might be more relevant in an adult game as the focus on the characters looks is higher in these games.

more so what I was saying is that when adult games show to make a lot of money, financial institutions will be less likely to impose arbitrary rules upon the devs

not a fan but if devs wana add micro in, thats their choice, the issue is very few services allow adult content, patreons kind of a work around, i.e. if a dev added micro he couldnt use paypall to handle the payment as an example, the few that do have high fees so micros not an option, as far as I know

wouldnt mind karyn getin different outfits tho

That's not what he's saying at all. He's saying that Patreon will only modify their rules if adult games become as big as mainstream video games in terms of revenues and profits. The reason why Remtairy and other community supported games don't add mtx is that this can potentially hurt the goodwill that encourages the financial support they receive from the community in the first place. When Patreon and other community backed platforms disappear, or when an adult game developer is really after profits, that's when mtx becomes the only option for earning anything for their work.

The idea that the "SJWs" are pressuring Patreon to "clean" itself up is just ridiculous, as it is leftists who are usually very critical of Patreon and how they treat their creators. It's Patreon's corporate greed that makes their platform hostile to adult games, as Patreon wants to have as large a market as possible, which means appeasing conservatives who see any sexual content as immoral.
