Overview:
This game is not considered part of the official Rance universe timeline, forking off after the events of Rance 4.2, as a "What if" episode. However, many characters and ideas featured in later Rance games originated in Kichikuou Rance.
The game begins at the start of LP0003. The warrior Rance, accompanied as always by his faithful slave Sill Plain, has been living as the leader of a group of bandits in northern Helman after killing their previous leader as part of a job given to him by the Keith Guild. While Rance greatly enjoys the raping and pillaging that comes with being a bandit leader, the guilt-ridden Sill believes that he is in danger of losing what remains of his conscience and genuinely becoming a villain.
After attacking the city of Golak, Rance's group alerts the attention of Ruberan Tser, commander of the Helman volunteer army, who launches a counterstrike on them during their second attempt at pillaging the city. Unable to fight against a genuine army, the bandits are quickly destroyed, Sill is captured by the Helman Army and Rance is forced to flee for his life.

I remember playing this game back in the day and hated how the save system worked since it only saved at the start of the day making you need to rewatch a lot of scenes when you were experimenting with things.

This is my favorite Rance game. There are so many different choices and routes you can take. It outshines Sengoku for me because I like the story a lot more, even though Sengoku had better gameplay.

edit: Also if anyone doesnt like the low resolution you can use magpie upscaler to get fullscreen looking pretty nice.

A Mangagamer version of Kichikuou Rance?

Man, there's been a fan translation out for years. If it wasn't for the fact that the original version won't run on Windows 10 no matter what I try, I'd be like "why even bother?".

And official English translations will be mildly censored anyway. *Some* of the available girls are canonically underage (usually 16 or 17), and this is dummied out in the official translations of the later Rance games as well.

Okay, always wanted to get into the rance games but there are so many. Where does a person even start, what is the chronological order here!?
Honestly, the series is so big that you can pick any one game and just branch out from there.

Most Rance fans in the West got introduced to the series through Sengoku Rance, so you might as well go for that one.

It's a solid game by any measure. And it also helps that it's fairly self-contained compared to some of the other games in the series, so you won't be wondering who the hell this or that character is (until you get to the easter egg characters).

If you REALLY want a good overview of the entire setting, then Kichikuou Rance is in fact the game you want. But Kickikuou is also basically the best game in the entire series on a lot of counts (...except for the clunky old interface), and the series got a major overhaul after that. Later Rance games like Collapse of Zeth, Sengoku Rance, and Helman Revolution have a very different direction in terms of art and writing (even though they're still using ideas that were already explored in Kichikuou).

On that note: Kichikuou Rance is kinda special because it's the Rance game that Alicesoft made when they were on the verge of bankruptcy. They honestly thought that this was going to be their last game ever, so they just decided to go out with a bang and work EVERY Rance-related idea into one final Rance game. The whole thing was fully intended to wrap up every single idea and storyline that the writers still had in mind.

And then Kichikuou became such a hit that it actually saved the company. So the Alicesoft peeps decided to make even more Rance games, and do something even more grandiose with those old Rance ideas.

Oh... This one is really big. It would take more time to complete this one, than Sengoku Rance. It have more endings as far as i remember and there is also plenty of events. Though, i didn't spend there as much time as in Sengoku
