You and the other homie that replied are awesome. Thats a whole ton of games to go through. It drives me up the wall to not start from the beginning when it comes to such a large franchise but sadly I do see the problem as always that it comes from over seas so translations will always be the issue especially with something so apparently long lived(didnt know there were that many lol). Ill see what I can come up with, appreciate you making it much easier with the image!

Edit: Are the rances below the first ones the remakes or separate stuff?
Speaking of translation issues: the Rance series actually had quite a bit of translator drama...

The first Rance game that got an English translation was Sengoku - that one got a fan translation in 2009.

Sengoku became an instant hit in the West, so of course people were eager for more. Not to mention that Sengoku's main route (and canon ending) end with a pretty big cliffhanger.

Rance Quest, the sequel, came out in 2011. So you'd think that the fan translators would get to work with that one right away, right?

Welllll... they did. But then that particular fan translation circle struck a deal with Mangagamer, and then they were like "Nope. We're gonna sit on this translation until Mangagamer decides to publish it. Go buy Beat Blades Haruka if you want Mangagamer and Alicesoft to even consider the idea of selling a Rance title in the West".

The translation was like 95% done at that point, so... as you can guess, people were salty.

To make matters worse, it wasn't until 2021 when the English version of Rance Quest was released. The Western fans got blueballed for a full decade.

And that's just the tip of the iceberg, really...

Other fan translation outfits decided to cope by translating the older Rance titles instead. One group did the old versions of Rance 1, 2 and 3, along with Rance 4 and a few other minor games, while a different group did Kichikuou Rance in 2014. Neither of those groups had been involved with the Sengoku Rance fan translation.

So, what happened next? Tons of drama and slapfights about the 'proper' transliteration of names, that's what.

One of the most visible and annoying results of this is the name of the town カスタム, which would render to 'kasutamu' if you go for the most literal transliteration. But it's also clearly a non-Japanese name (like most names in the Rance series), and as the Japanese scripts are ass for rendering anything in any language other than Japanese, this is where the headaches start.

Now, rendering カスタム as 'Custom' would be a pretty natural choice, right? The Rance series is full of gratuitous tongue-in-cheek English anyway. And indeed, this is also how the original Sengoku Rance translation and the Kichikuou Rance fan translation rendered this name.

...except the translator of the group who handled Rance 1 through 4 apparantly had a bug up her ass about this one as she insisted on transliterating this as... 'Kathtom'. Which is borderline impronouncible and doesn't even make sense.

Mangagamer's official translations ditched that bullshit and reverted to 'Custom'. So 'Custom' is what the town is called in both the earliest translations and all of the official translations. But still insists on calling the town 'Kathtom' because apparantly nobody there got the memo yet.

...and then there's the lovely little fact that some of the other official translations are being slow-walked as well.

Lerd0 already mentioned that the translation of the Rance 3 remake is taking forever. That one's not even that big of a loss, because there's still the fan translation of the original version of Rance 3. The remake is a nice little extra (and it does contain some tweaks and retcons), but it's not like you're missing out on major plotlines this way.

But then there's Rance X... which is the grand finale of the entire setting. The scale and scope of this game are absolutely massive, covering the entire continent and including as many characters and factions as possible. Oh, and did I mention that Rance X is actually two games?

Rance X hasn't been translated yet - and there's absolutely no way that we'll see a Rance X translation before the Rance 3 remake's translation is done... and that translation is being slow-walked too.

Right now, those are the only Rance games that haven't been translated yet. But even so, we'll be very, very lucky if we'll get to see a Rance X translation before the end of this decade.

TL;DR: at least almost every Rance game has been translated by now, but don't go count on being able to play Rance X anytime soon. With the current situation and Mangagamer's track record, learning Japanese would probably be quicker...

That is freaking insane! Kinda scares me to even try getting into it all knowing that ill be blue balled if I do end up enjoying it... god lee, rance fans are just a vault of information lol. I appreciate all of yall though now im torn on starting it soon or not. Ive already been blue balled from a lot of other IPs this year, not sure if I want to keep growing the list XD

Kichikuou is easily my favorite Rance. It's the ultimate Rance experience. Granted, Sengoku gameplay is far better, more refined and smooth and all... and yet, it still just doesn't compare to the masterpiece that is Kichikuou Rance (which is in many ways more of a puzzler than a strategy game). It's likely the best, rawest Rance you'll ever get; just compare Rance 9 (The Helmanian Revolution; and IMHO a bit of a stinker in the series) to the corresponding bits in Kichikuou Rance (I believe I already wrote some walls of text in that thread, so I'm not gonna repeat myself here too much...).

It's incredible how much neat little things are to be discovered in Kichikuou. Also the art is just gorgeous and has - contrary to the gameplay - aged wonderfully. Love it.

Used to think Rance IV was my favorite, but yeah, Kichikuou is the best. It has both grand scale of newer Rance games, and vicious behavior of Rance himself in 1-5.

But too bad, Rance can't has sex with hunty kalar. During sengkoku, we can cuck Souun just like Rance stole big forehead princess.

The best about Kichikuou , Rance can rape almost every female. My favorite is Miki but the developer sealed the fate. Rance can't win against Miki. Too bad Kotaro dies.

Well, I beg to differ. The best thing about Kichikuou is clearly the relationship and correspondence (via cute demon apostles Kaybnyan and Kaybwan) between Kayblis and Camilla.

Ah, that part. I usually forgotten on that part. Couple years ago, i was focusing on letting Rance to rape any heroine. I have a bad memories of the White whale. I think i did ended up using a cheat/ct. I wish they can remake the whole thing and let Rance snatch all heroines/ and cuck Patton.

Ah, that part.
:D Yeah, that part. It's such a great nonsense/filler subplot. Kayblis writing all those letters, the two demon apostles fucking up time and again, and even if they'd manage to successfully deliver Kayblis' letter, Camilla wouldn't read a single line of it anyways.

...and then all over again, because those cutscenes play indefinitely (as long as you're screwing around too much) and they're just getting more hilarious the more they play.

But... Hunty is old and busted. Also Patton is a good boy that deserves her for himself: he did let Rance plap all his groupies in Zeth. I'd say that's a pretty fair deal. Proofs:

Helman dude a bro.jpg

It's actually Sengoku Rance that needs a remake, so Rance gets to finally plap the sexy fox girl from Dokuganryuu Masamune. What was her name again? ahh... Omachi!

dot, dot, dot.jpg

Not a single lewd scene with Omachi in Sengoku... Now that was maybe a let down...

Played Rance 1, 2, III and IV and finished this game years ago. This is still in my opinion one of the best Example on why Rance is still the best media period. There's nothing in modern media that could replicate the history, legacy and importance of a character so prolific his impact still being replicate on every other genre of media. I can find the traces of idea that originate from this series in every modern manga/web novel that I've come across. For however long I will live, I will continue to figuratively suck the dick of this series due to how monumental the impact this game specifically has on me. The Rance from the older game are more quite brutal in terms of its depiction of what Rance would do if things didn't goes his way. Example: If you failed to save Sill and she's put to execution, the woman who originally attack Rance will be raped to death per Rance's order. Or the Demon King Rance ending in this story is more brutal than the canon timeline, namely he will kill Miki with Chaos and bath in her blood as one of the more darker ending of this game.

If you don't lewd the 4 monster generals and let the eyeball king have them, he gives you Omachi... I think I'm forgetting a lot of details, but I know I(Rance) lewded Omachi. It's just a really stupid method to do so, cause she doesn't like being in a harem with other Yokai or something.

The wiki is quite underwhelming. The sheer amount of random requirements for certain events makes hunting them quite a pain, and navigating pages just to find missing information is really annoying.

The walkthrough page + the generals page should mostly be enough for events. Are you looking for something in particular?

I was looking for the Menad H scene, turns out the harem page requirements doesn't show the 33% troop health requirements, but her personal page shows.
The ending page also doesn't explain how to get most of the destinies for them.
