Oh, we've disagreed before. Just because we're similar ages and have good intentions, we are still different people... separated by an ocean (of water, and of experiences).
You've shoot an arrow in the dark, expecting that the word had for most of my life the meaning that it now have in your country. It's not the same.
This while its meaning, as I knew it until now, make them partly intruder, partly redounding (since followed by femboy), in my list. What can perfectly have been the reason why you were reacting...
All this while, as I said, MtF were mentioned twice, and the following definition explicitly pointed to the fact that the word wasn't used with the meaning you give it.
What is the funny part here. You could have thought that you assumed wrong the reason why I used that word, but preferred to decide that I was wrongly defining it.
It's clear that you've been personally hurt by this, and I'm sorry, but you should try to remember who you're talking too before jumping to such conclusions. It's not like I've never wrote posts as long as books in defense of transgenders before...
I did not think you used the word for the wrong reason. I didn't even notice at first that you wrongly defined it, either.
It's not that I'm personally hurt, either.
No, you're monitoring his language and asking him to adopt an American version of what is tolerated and what is not when he is from France.
And I know what Carlin believed. I know everything Carlin ever put out there, lol. I've been a fan for decades. From the article you shared: "First I want to be really clear about one thing: as far as other people’s feeling are concerned—especially these “victim groups”—when I deal with them as individuals, I will call them whatever they want. When it’s one on one, if some guy wants me to call him a morbidly obese, African-ancestored male with a same gendered sexual orientation I’ll be glad to do that. One the other hand if he wants me to call him a fat n*gger c0cksucker, than that’s what it will be. I’m here to please."
And you haven't responded to my comment on intent. In fact, you cut out the part about intent. It's as if you don't care about intent and just want people do what everyone else thinks is right to be politically correct.
No, I've just learned that you are only out for "gotcha" moments without truly understanding them. I've accepted that about you. You don't want to help people learn. You simply are looking for "aha" moments, whether or not you actually understand them.
That is the major difference between you and me.
I didn't comment on intent because I don't have an argument with intent. I know AON intended to be good-natured and helpful. That doesn't mean that AON shouldn't be informed their use of terms are not what they should be.
Also, You again, are creatively quoting Carlin. Yes, that article stated that - but in whole - the article is very clear how he feels. First, the quote you pulled from the link in the article supports my point, not yours. Re-read it again.
And to snip a quote, in your style -
"First of all, I say “black”. I say “black” because most black people prefer “black”."
Most transgender women do not prefer shemale. They prefer transgender women. And as such, Carlin would - if he were alive today - say "transgender women" and not "shemales" or "trannies" or some such. His one transgender joke "I knew a transexual guy..." was within norms for the time and he would have kept with the norms to this day. And yes, I know you can pull a quote or quote and attempt to try to make your point. I know. However, Carlin - first and foremost - was about having people be introspective about their views and society. He was not about insulting someone --- unless he truly believed that someone needed insulted in order for them to be taken down a peg.
I can go on, but unless you are willing to move beyond gotcha moments, it's useless.
No, no you did not. You said
You COULD have just said "That word can be offensive", but you didn't. Instead, you acted like a bit of a dick to someone you KNOW means no offense. I cannot believe I have to say this to you of all people, but the American view of language isn't the only one that matters.
No shit.
I know what I said. I also know that how I said it should have raised a red flag.
And, you are taking this to become an US vs. Them (Americans vs. the world) when you know -- and commented as such that you know - that I don't play that shit.
