I feel like those game devs would make better profit by doing erotic art commissions instead of game making.

I'm currently working on adding sound to the gallery and I'll upload a patch to the ULMF forum thread when finished. Just FYI, this game was REALLY badly developed, with a bunch of bugs, lack of features and sounds, and generally unimpressive. Therefore, I needed to get dirty with RPGMaker a bit more than I'd like to, since y'all would crap on this game even more if I didn't. But it's at least a little better than that last sneak game I translated.

Also, I translated the heroine's name as 'Karina'. 'Kurone' just sounds strange to an English-speaking audience (It should've been "Krone", for "crown"), and what I WANTED to translate her name to doesn't sound right since it's ... not appropriate given it's the name of the virus that's causing us to stay indoors.

Hey translator-kun! IMO changing her name is bad decision. Quick google search showed, that it is normally used Japanese name so I would personally abstain from associating it with engrish version of crown. Besides, your way of thinking is really dangerous, it makes me remember butchered localisations of japanese games from decade ago, where not only names, but entire plot would be changed, so it would be better understood by western audience.

It is Japanese name from Japanese game, everyone who would be at least remotely interested in this title will understand that. And it might be my slavic bias, but Kurone sounds completely normal to me and I wouldn't even think about corona-virus if you didn't mention it.

Besides Karina, name you choose for the protagonist has one giant flaw - It sounds Russian. Name is important way of characterization and often can tell a lot about character. Karina makes me thing she's Russian, Kurone - that she's Japanese. Let us forget for a moment that I'm speaking about cheap porn game. Changing ones nationality and at the same time all stereotypes that comes with it, even for a character in fantasty world where those nations and traits don't apply (it doesn't matter, after all it's readers knowledge that's important here) is change too big for any translator worth their salt to make.

Obviously it's only my personal rant and you don't have to care about this, but it is my believe that translating or changing names, unless there is some kind of hidden message or meaning in them is wrong and should be avoided.

Anyway, as much as it seems I'm invested in this, and as much as it seems I'm trying to argue, I'm really not. lol, just offering my perspective, as you are. I respect what you've got to say, even if I don't agree in this case, and I appreciate you cared enough about the translation to suggest something like this. Weebs and Otakus squabbling over crap like this is what gives the Internet (and porn) life.

As far as changing it, it's really not hard to change it, but I also personally like it myself. I'm far more invested in trying to give the people what they want (the sounds for the gallery and h-scenes), so I'm gonna finish that first. And I'll provide some modified files with the patch so that if people want the original name, they can use those instead.

What, you want her to live the rest of her life in trauma and fear? The next time I translate something, I'll make sure the victim has an aftermath story, where she gets a dozen interviews on the news, writes a book, organizes social movements, and speaks out for new laws preventing sexual assault. Then she'll have a cathartic moment with her attacker where he'll get arrested and she'll confront him in court and ... damn, I already lost interest.

Seriously though, totally agree. I'm translating a much longer game right now, and translating garbage like this is really just so I can blow off some steam with a little distraction (otherwise I'd get burnt out). Seems like devs are making games like this for quick cash. As stated, there's essentially very little story and we're all just playing this for the CGs.

Personally, as a native English speaker, I prefer the Angloalisation of names that come across clunky in English, Nanoko rolls off the tongue and is easy to remember but Kurone doesn't.
I prefer Serena, Amy, Raye, Mina, Lita to Usagi, Ami, Rei, Minako, Motoko.
Just as long the integrity of the plot isn't changed or tamed, or outright butchered as with DIC's Sailor Moon, to fit a western audience.

Funny that ZeroR3 says Karina sounds like a russian name, because to me Kurone's face and body build look russian.

You're off by over half a century, it was a Meiji Restoration thing originally. The Japanese went whole hog for Westernization, to the point of absurdity at times, and for the most part their prime role models were the UK and Germany - I probably don't need to tell you how farcically stuck-up *those* were in the late 1800s...?
