Unreal Engine Completed Last Hope [v1.0196] [Poolside Games]

Some Bad News and Some Good News
I know you've all been waiting to see how progress is going on the next game but sadly this post is going to be a little different than the past few. I have unfortunately decided that the best thing I can do right now is to pause development on the game. Obviously this isn't something I wanted to do but after thinking everything over it was necessary for a few reasons
The first major reason is that development on the game is taking a lot longer than I expected. Over the last 2 months I have been able to get 2 scenes complete for the intro of the game. This is out of 10 total scenes that make up full intro which I wanted to have finished for the first release of the game to patreon along with the first story which is another 20 or so scenes long. Even if I can dramatically speed up development I feel it will still be over a year until even the first release is done. This is just way too slow considering the full game is planned to be at least 20 stories long
This could have been alright if I was able to hire some extra people for animation and the other jobs while releasing each story as it was finished but now that's no longer possible. Recently steam made it so you could no longer release adult games in early access which was my plan for this new game. This would mean that for the next few years I would be relying solely on money made on patreon for support until fully completing the game. If I was to make as much as I did while making Last Hope it was barely enough for me on my own but to also cover the costs of hiring others to help I would very quickly run out of money
There is a chance that the game does get more attention and does better on Patreon then Last Hope but I think its too risky to hope that happens on a game of this size. Especially because if it doesn't I wouldn't be able to continue working on the game on my own
So I know that this will be really disappointing for everyone who's been following development but hopefully you can understand why I have decided to make this decision. I do really hope to be able to come back to work on this game as I think It will be really amazing but for the moment I have to put it on the back burner until I know I can get it done
Now you're probably wondering If I'm no longer working that game what am I doing. Well I had a idea for another game a few months ago that I have been slowing adding to which is what I'll be working on instead. It's quite different to the games I've worked on before but It's a lot smaller in scope and once most of the systems are working adding additional content will take much less time. I'll save the details for now but expect another post soon to go over what the game is going to be
Thanks to anyone who reads all of this, hope you can understand why I've decided to switch focus and that you look forward to seeing the new game I'm working on. Let me know your thoughts and I'll be happy to respond
One more thing, I am going to remove the image channels from the discord. It's nothing but scams at this point and they were never really active anyway but just wanted to let you all know

Yeah glad Poolside is being honest about progress and smart for switching to a smaller scale project to make up money in the meantime but I just hope whatever it is isn't the typical VN.
I'd be fine with it for dialogue with no 3D environment but the 3D scene's with great camera options is what made this game one of my top pick's.

It is a damn shame his new game is dead now. I don't see how he can get back to it if he struggled even with Last Hope. Guess the new steam rules really killed the new game for good.
It is so frustrating and sad. I hope he sells Last Hope on GOG since I really want to buy it again if that helps him and GOG seems to have less strict rule for NSFW games so far.

i think he could have continued using the same gameplay loop like last hope instead of focusing on branching stories like vn.

It's kinda shocking to see this dev has way fewer supporters than others despite being one of the highest rated UE game (in terms of likes and rating) on here. This plus all those steam and card drama are not really giving him any breathing room.
The dev is the GOAT and it is a testament to how much quality work is in this game that it hasn't spawned 50+ knock off clones. It's too hard for these renpy developers to make something that is as good as this.
Did you ever find out? I'm having the same problem and can't save or load. When you press escape, both options are greyed out.

Oh damn, so it's dead. I'm interested in the new post about the new smaller game, but I've been here long enough to know this is usually when the content completely dies. Switching projects has never worked, or at least I have never seen someone successfully pull it off. And the way it's all worded makes me feel like the smaller new game is not going to be nsfw and will be a complete pivot.
Tho I'm a cynical asshole, so I'll hold my judgment until the actual dev posts something.
