Was it though? Vega certainly put him through the wringer after he did a lot to hurt her, but none of it was something he could realistically have avoided given just how stunted his own development is. It's like a color-blind guy volunteering to disarm a bomb in a crisis: the results might be as predictable as they are grizzly, but what exactly was the alternative if a qualified expert wasn't available?
I'm not sure the lessons the MC could learn from Vega will be the right ones.

I hope next update we get some major Jamie progression(she was kind of absent last chapter), and some sort of lewd scene with her, it doesn't have to be full sex yet.
