The effect is a reduction in the rate of new pirates. If less people see the game on the latest updates page, less will be attracted to this thread. Less people attracted to this thread means less piracy, which is exactly what Sel wanted. Passive blind discovery is the reduction of piracy in this case and, as far as supporters, have you not seen where the game is at in terms of income? The latest active goal on SubscribeStar, meaning the latest one not met yet, is to reach the ludicrous amounts gained by another game just because why not. We are well beyond the point of needing new blood in the subscriber pool. In fact, new subscribers could even be detrimental because all tiers give access to requests at this point and that means time needed to work on them that he has to take either out of personal time or game development time, both options having a severe potential negative impact.I struggle to see how you come to that conclusion... those of us already following the game continue to get early access thanks to leaks, those searching by top rated games will still come across it and upon checking will discover it's still in active development, those who discover the game elsewhere and search for it here to pirate it will find it easy to do so. All that's really taken away is passive blind discovery, including both new pirates and potential new supporters. The anti piracy crowd might scoff at the suggestion of 'potential new supporters' but there's simply no denying the fact that a number of people who regularly visit this thread both discovered the game via this website and have given it monetary support to some degree at some point, so they certainly exist, even if you choose to think of them as dismissable minority. The impact of day-1 leaks is still as present now as before the game was removed from the promotion system as anyone who was already benefiting from those leaks still knows how and where to benefit from them...
If this is a win on any level then i'll just quietly chuckle to myself whenever someone brags about it.
It depends, the game got a pretty big spotlight. Japanese companies definitely won't touch it, there's a stigma on porn of any kind, but western ones could. There is no cultural stigma here and western companies tend to be dangerously greedy when it comes to money. For a western example, look at what CBS did to the rules regulating the making of fan projects for the Star Trek franchise, it basically killed the fan project market entirely and all because one bad apple was violating copyright laws by stepping outside of fair use through making direct profit. What kind of adult company has the legal resources to do that? I get disney or nintendo, but you know the big guns ain't gonna dabble with porn lol
Good point, I hadn't even considered that. I count Fakku as one of these and they have a history showing interest in Illusion products. You must be registered to see the links
They wouldn't exist if subscribers actually got their benefits, which the leaks prevent since, well, the leaks effectively are the benefits now being given to non-subscribers. It isn't exactly a subscriber benefit if everyone is getting it, so Sel made these to try and give us back something exclusive which he would then allow free users paid access to later. Essentially, if everyone just waited two weeks for free or paid for the early access, these wouldn't exist.Yeah, honestly, if you give half a shit about these extras you can see about 90% of what's on offer just by looking at the files directly, and the other 10% is just dialogue written in Renpy script. I get you might want the authentic experience but if you're so thirsty for it then just follow the guide.
Personally wish the damn things didn't exist just so we wouldn't have a slow but constant trickle of folks stumbling in asking about them. If they were even remotely worth it i'd happily put up with it but they're not, so it's just fuckin' annoying.
