Serious answer this time: It's a very well written denpa game. Most famous games in the same genre include Doki Doki Literature Club and Higurashi.
If you're not familiar with those, it's a dating sim visual novel that has something else happening beneath the surface and treats the characters as if they're real people by showing real consequences to the normal wish fulfillment present in most other dating sims/VNs.
It's a game that makes you appreciate the happy times by also showing you the sad ones.
Huh, and I thought Higurashi was more of a standard horror game. Then again, when the characters in that snap, they do do it right then and there with little to no warning for anyone who doesn't already know. This is probably the best answer in the thread to this question.
Yes Indeed, maybe... wait could it have been no this entire time and we just didnt KNOW it
Maybe, but what if the answer is all of the above instead?
I've been told that this game is supposed to show the characters as realistic with their own problems and such, which I understand completely. but what's with the weird smiley faces and glitchy stuff? also what is the text to speech thing?
That is where the Denpa element comes in. It's all happy fun until shit hits the fan, as is the case in Higurashi now that I think about it. The 'glitchy stuff' and 'weird smiley faces,' anything happening in those scenes really, are part of the signature underlying Denpa plot that is occurring right under our noses.
Selebus Since Higurashi was brought up, none of the girls are going to go full blown Shion or Rena on us...right?...right?!
Why am I seeing this as the literal translation of an Eroge/VN title?
Now I can't not see it.
Slight change to "I can't believe my little sister likes religious satire slice of life black comedy psychological character drama horror porn games!!" and you have a light novel title.
I'd read it.
Please, no, I can't take it, that's too funny. This is exactly something an LN author would use.
And I would read it just for the title alone, but I would already know the whole story by the time I got done with the front cover.
is that an offer or an attempt at humor?
Yes
I mean no disrespect, but maybe you could put a warning?
Like, just before the happy scene triggers, a warning would pop up that says: HAPPY SCENE INCOMING.
And then you click the next button and bam! Happy scene hits.
And of course, a toggle on/off feature so that players who don't want a warning (like me) can turn it off?
That doesn't solve the issue, those with a medical issue that could be affected by such an emotional jolt will still be affected, they just won't see the scene without warning. There is only one way to avoid the issue of people having negative effects caused by a combination of, for example, sleep paralysis and a vivid memory of the event that allows the affected person to relive it. That is for them to just not play. The 'happy' scenes are just too important to miss out on and they, in combination with the underlying issue with the affected players, are the cause of the overall issue.
