Having to farm Lust points really takes the magic away...
I'd argue that "magic" of LiL is in the story, characters and music. So farming points, whatever it's affection of lust, doesn't bother me personally.

the L patch is no longer relevant anymore right? 21 part 2 was the last version that worked on correct?
That's a bit murky atm.
But you should by no means apply a patch or play something that seems to require a patch.

I played the "compressed" version +patch. It looked like 0.23p2. But it broke down completely around the beach event.

The full version is quite chubby. But it looks fine so far.
Recently I declined a suggestion to wait for the update.
Now I'd give it myself ;)

How can having too many affection points make you miss events? I thought you only missed events if you didn't have enough. In my latest save I grinded loads of points and didn't miss any events, did I just get lucky?
Affection is the primary trigger for the main events, having enough can trigger any main event without a second trigger automatically and that can cascade into multiple main events, which leaves no room for grinding lust because you don't have control if it does cascade. There are several points where lust events are connected to a main event, happening automatically with that main event if you have the required lust, so if you go into the connected main event without the required lust, you guarantee missing the lust event.

There are also some triggers for missing events directly tied to certain characters without having to make a choice, which means you may miss character events because the affection was high enough to trigger another event that blocks certain other character events.

It will not be needed going into the next version as there will no longer be separated content for the sake of following pay site rules. The huggy boy version, that is what the censored one was called, is now long dead.

He's talking about lust scenes within event chains, mostly. If u have a plethora of affection points, this can cascade a stream of events you won't be able to stop and so u'll miss sex scenes sandwiched in between because of your lack of lust points.

Yes.

Not sure.
Exactly

Oh ok, not to sound nitpicky but that's not reallt too many affection points, it's not enough lust points. Just remember to grind both and you should be fine :)
U can frame it either way just fine. U have too many affection so events trigger before u farm enough lust, or u have too little of lust points, so you miss scenes when event chain triggers.
Correct, though it really is the affection because you would still be able to grind the lust without the cascade effect the affection can create if too high. If the lack of lust was the central cause, it could at least be remedied by grinding, but the cause is the cascade effect from the affection, which does not allow for grinding

Mostly the characters and story, the music is really well chosen, but I wouldn't call it part of the magic, more like an aid to the other two given that they were existing works that Selebus just chose based on what fit as far as I can tell.

Deserved it for what?
Don't engage with this shizo.
I agree with Akselx here, don't engage. I foolishly tried in good faith as I would with anyone who has not shown signs that it wouldn't be a good idea, at least to me, it lasted a page and a half of just back and forth, some of it not making sense and risking thread derailment.

This isn't really accurate. The event chains aren't triggered by having affection, they're triggered by completing events. Beach 1, which was the first event chain with missable lust events, required the completion of a vast swathe of character events. Similarly Halloween, Christmas, Dorm Wars, and the 2nd iteration of those. If you're playing the game patch-to-patch, you will never boot up the game and get launched into a main event chain unless you've finished all the content in the past, in which case your problem still isn't affection, it's just which events you've completed.

Here's a cheat sheet of lust-based content per event chain, with what lust level you need to not miss anything:
Beach 1: Lust 10, Ami/Ayane/Futaba (Futaba's isn't a full event, just additional dialogue in an event)
Halloween 1: Lust 10, Sara/Haruka
Christmas 1: Lust 10, Chika/Futaba
Dorm Wars: Lust 15, Ayane+Kirin/Futaba
3rd Reset: Lust 15, Ami
Beach 2: Lust 20, Kirin/Chika/Makoto
Halloween 2: Lust 20, Ami
Christmas 2: Lust 20, Ayane/Sara+Haruka/Kirin

Events which are triggered by having affection. It doesn't matter what events you complete before the target event, the one to avoid certain circumstances with, if you don't have the affection as it then won't trigger just as if you didn't complete the prerequisite events.

Meet the prerequisite event requirement, which most people who run into missed events do, and all that extra affection becomes a bad thing (Example: Schadenfreude, even though you do have to willingly go to the location, it is easy to meet the prerequisite event requirement, literally just seeing the Chika event before it, and still go into it with enough affection to trigger it without any further grinding after seeing the prerequisite event, making going to the location the only failsafe from becoming a bad homie to Rin later).

This has actually been a complaint of a few since the beginning, not including me as I find these event cascades fairly easy to avoid, when those few missed certain events, ranging from Rin's early events to lust events connected to main events later in the story.

Except you can easily avoid those situations as they are not only affection based, they are location based in those situations.

So far, there is no situation where you can't grind up lust even if affection is high before triggering the cascade of events.

And the extra affection isn't the problem of Schadenfreude. It's a problem of triggering the event too early. Which you can avoid by simply not going to Chika's Room if you meet the requirements.

You don't even need to trigger the prior Chika event to Schadenfreude to trigger the beach events if you want to make sure you don't accidentally trigger Schadenfreude.

The only reason you should accidentally trigger it is if you're not aware of what triggering it will do.

Huh? Aren't first beach event triggers automatically as soon as meet the requirements? I could be wrong, it's been awhile.

Yes, as soon as you meet the requirements. Which requires certain events to have transpired.

So if you hold of on triggering even one of the events, like Molly's The Dark Entity event for example, you won't trigger What's Done is Done which is the start of the Beach Trip which means you can grind up lust values if you need to.

This applies to all of the automatic progression events like the other parties.

So what you're saying is if u don't grind and accumulate too much affection points, u won't trigger the even chain and possibly miss sex scene if your lust points aren't high enough?

The affection/lust points are only one part of requirement for scenes.

You can avoid triggering certain scenes by either not going to certain locations or by not triggering prerequisite scenes.

You can have 100 affection for every girl, and still not trigger certain scenes until you want to.

You can't accidentally trigger a scene just by having too high of an affection or lust stat.

But yes you can miss lust scenes if you trigger the chain events without the girls prerequisite stats for them or in the case of Rin, having triggered Chika's event prior.

I wrote a small mod that lets you skip the affection/lust point grind without having to go through the tedium of typing in cheat codes or having your save labelled with the cheater flag.

1656721309525.png

Features:
  • Sets all girls' affection and lust points to a value X unless they were already higher than X
  • Can set a specific girl's love/lust points
  • Written to be future-proof (i.e. will automatically work for any new girls, you will never need to update the mod)
  • Enables the developer console
Usage Instructions:
  • Download the attached file
    • Note: if you get sent to a new tab with a bunch of text, just right click and hit "Save as" and name it as z_set_love_lust.rpy
  • Move into the folder named "game" (found inside the folder that you launch Lessons in Love from)
  • Load a save and open the developer console with Shift + O
  • Press Enter a few times until you can see the ">" symbol in the top left of the screen
  • To update all girls' love and lust: type setLoveAndLust(X) and press Enter(for an example, see the image below)
    • Note: X must be an integer (aka whole number)
  • To update a specific girl's love or lust, for example Ami: type "ami_love += X" and/or "ami_lust += X" without the quotation marks and then press Enter.
    • Note: the girl's name must be fully lower-case.
    • This will increase their love/lust by X. If you want to make it equal to X then omit the plus sign
  • Press Esc to close the console and now you can play!

Bonus stuff (not essential to read):

I recommend using this with the guide mod for max efficiency because other than grinding points, the main time-sink with this game is trying to trigger events.

If you want a version of the mod that lets you set affection and lust points separately (useful if you don't want to see any lust events), see here: https://f95zone.to/threads/lessons-in-love-v0-30-0-selebus.48158/post-10770605

Advice from alex2011 on how to use the mod so that you don't accidentally miss events (note: I used the mod myself with 50 affection from the start and didn't experience any issues. You can still miss events even if you follow the instructions below and you can still see all events while ignoring those instructions.):
Any player that uses this be warned, the grind acts as an unintentional failsafe against missing events. Going into the game from the start with affection at 50+ will not be of help, it will actually hurt any player's run for any player who does not know what to avoid to not miss events as 50+ affection is an automatic cascade of events at that point in the game, which may run them right into a missable event. I suggest setting it to 5 at the highest from the start and increasing it by 5 each as you play to avoid accidentally stumbling into that issue.
Uninstall: delete the files z_set_love_lust.rpy and z_set_love_lust.rpyc from your game subfolder

I also made a mod that lets you scroll your mouse-wheel to simulate clicks (i.e. scrolling forward a bit makes the dialogue move forward by one mouse click), makes the game more convenient to play https://f95zone.to/threads/use-scroll-wheel-to-simulate-mouse-clicks.120507/#post-8406783

Except when you meet the full requirement for multiple main events, if there was no situation where an event cascade could prevent lust grinding, there would be no situation where a lust event could be missed simply by triggering a succession of main events. I only used "Schadenfreude" as an example, not to mention I did specifically say that one has a failsafe preventing it from falling into an event cascade.

I've been giving the advice not to grind affection too high specifically because of event cascades since day one, usually whenever someone complains about missing events that 'shouldn't be missable' or whatever the complaint of the day is to shift away from the fact that they simply made a mistake in grinding affection and there were consequences for that mistake in missing the events they missed.

A lot of players go into this expecting more of the usual porn game with a straightforward, formulaic story and being able to choose who they want to see, not some web of event requirements involving other girls, not being able to miss events, which in most games here you cannot do even if you try. That is the single biggest mistake people make going into this game for the first time, expecting it to follow the pattern of other games here just because it is here.

You don't have permission to view the spoiler content. Log in or register now.
My guess is that Sensei is not the only character subject to the puzzles and Maya just so happened to fail one this time, resulting in not making it to the roof in time, potentially meaning she got reset like any other character.

This is only true for some events, in others, having 100+ affection is extremely bad. This is specific to main events since character events like "Schadenfreude" are also location specific or require you to call them. Main events are the ones that get lust events tied to them that trigger automatically with the required lust. This is also fairly specific to early events fom before a certain point in the story, after which events often require character events from specific characters, or in the case of chapter ending main events, ALL characters.

If it wasn't possible, there wouldn't have been people complaining about it back before the game was a year old, which I responded to with 'don't grind affection too high, but lust is fine to grind as much as you want,' something along those lines, on multiple occasions.

I wrote a small mod that lets you skip the affection/lust grind without having to go through the tedium of typing in cheat codes (and lets you avoid having your save labelled with the cheater flag). Features:
  • Sets all girls' love and lust to 50 unless they were already higher than 50
  • Written to be future-proof (i.e. will automatically work for any new girls)
  • Enables the ren'py developer console (turn it on with shift + O)

Installation:
  • Download the attached file
  • Move into the game subfolder (found in the folder that you launch Lessons in Love from)

Uninstall: delete z_inc_love_lust.rpy and z_inc_love_lust.rpyc from your game subfolder

If you want to set the love/lust to a different value than 50 then you can just open the mod file with a text editor and change the number on line 4
