Is she simply blocking out the memory of her son when she talks about her ex missing out on Sana?
Bingo.

Also, why the hate on Shota's name? AFAIK, it's a japanese name, though maybe you could say it's the short form, but it is.

The hate for Shota's name is because we're not Japanese, neither is Selebus and this is an adult game.

Were we Japanese talking about a regular person's name, sure, no big deal. But in the context of an American writing a porn story and choosing to give a little boy the name of Shota, well. That's the issue. It took me completely out of the story and certainly it didn't help when his reveal involved "Shota" morphing into the shota version of Akira to be hit on by his "onee-san" Sana.

One thing I don't completely understand is the relationship with Sara, Sana's father, and Sara's son who I refuse to name because it's such a stupid name.

Sara keeps talking about how her ex knocked her up and left her before Sana was born, since he was scared of responsibility, or she'll say things about how much he missed out on seeing how cute she is. But if Sana is the younger of two siblings, who is the father of the son? Because I doubt he would have stuck around for two children the way she talks about him.

Is she simply blocking out the memory of her son when she talks about her ex missing out on Sana? The way Sana talks about him, there was at least a bit of an age gap. So what gives?
Sara's teacher was the father of both of her kids. They were in a relationship for "a few years" (i.e. all of high school) and already had a kid together before he left.

She talks about the first time she told him she was pregnant, which leads into her talking about Shota (who she does normally avoid talking about).

I imagine he always intended to leave her from the first pregnancy, if not before, but it was just convenient for him to stay with her while she was still his student. She was in his class for all of high school, and based on the timeline she likely got pregnant with Shota sometime in her first year.

I thought it was clever parallelism and commentary on hentai culture, but maybe I'm just easily impressed. Plus as an anime fan the name didn't surprise me at all considering there are quite a few anime characters that use the name, and Selebus has clearly shown he has at least dipped his toes into that whole culture. If he hadn't this story would probably not exist at all

Envision this scenario:

Sana instead had a sister that died at a young age (thus perpetually frozen at that age), and you find out that her name was Loli. Then, in the scene that Loli is revealed, she suddenly morphs into a lolicon version of Niki or something - and Sana starts hitting on her (because when else would she have that chance).

While it certainly fits with your commentary perspective, given how much on the nose it is, I personally didn't like. And I think that Selebus should either have gone full commentary on the nature of shotacon (which he did on the Otoha FanFest thing), or simply have revealed Shota's name in a less iconic manner.

Fair point I'm starting to see how banal the entire situation could come across, but if I were to be annoying then technically the comparison is bad because "Loli" isn't a normal given name in English or Japanese.

I guess Lolita would kinda work though...but then I would still end up thinking that's a clever reference too XD

Why's it stupid? It's a fairly common Japanese given name, it just happens to also be the name of a certain tag
Honestly I'm not suprised that name is common Japan. I do personally know a Lolita. Why her parents named her that I don't know and I dont have the stomach to ask. So now I have to live with knowing that there are both Loli's and Shota's walking around.

Yeah this is it for me, I think. Selebus knew what he was doing choosing that name

I finished this game for the first time a few days ago, and I can't stop thinking about it. How do you long-time players deal with waiting for each update? I want another 100 hours to play through right now, lol.
I see; an easy solution for you.

on the real though, everyone discovers something they missed during their first playthrough now that they know what and where to look. You can also try choosing routes you have not walked on and see what lies ahead as well.

Or you can post memes.

Naahhhhh, that's more stupid than Shota. It's just your hentai brainrot

In true weeb fashion, the perfect word to describe Selly in this case is 悪趣味 (あくしゅみ), intentionally choosing this name in an adult game with underage characters to prod players funny.

Alas, as some have brought up, Shota itself is a common, harmless name that has no ill meaning. Just the name itself alone does not automatically carry what we or Selly might be insinuating until Selly specifically incorporates something into his story. I.e., it doesn't mean that Shota would be a tasty target of a known shotacon (whose extent is revealed only in a non canon spinoff), or Shota's mom is secretly a shotacon, or Shota would grow up to become a shotacon himself had he got the chance to grow up.

None of that is true until Selly hard implements any part of it into the game. Before that happens, we are just being prodded funny, and it works exceptionally well on people who know some but not enough about Japanese naming, or people who know the term shotacon prior to knowing its origin, legitimate name Shota and its variants.

Excited to see how Rin and Yumi's respective stories continue, I think they were my two favourite characters.

Exactly, I just finished my first playthrough the beginning of March. Started posting in here a bit after and the past couple of days I picked LiL back up to A) max up some of the stats in prep ( especially Lust stats for the more recent girls), and then start over a new run. It really is interesting the extra stuff you pick up on, even if not all of it was originally intended.

Hi guys
I spent an entire day collecting almost every tier list posted on this forum — in total, I found 47 unique lists. Based on them, I calculated an overall popularity rating for each girl in the game.
So, here is the ranking of the most popular characters according to the members of the f95 forum:

Looking at this from and my tier list; I think my ranking of Yumi kept her from #1 and Futaba from being in the bottom 5

I am surprised that Makato was ranked so highly. And Sara ended up just above Sana

How far back did you go for the tier lists? I know if I put one together say a year ago(or further) Maya would have been ranked a lot higher. That could explain why others have some surprises to the consolidated tier ranking

Amazing Ranking, thank you for compiling this data for everyone here in this small community!

To continue off what Mike.Ross80 said, if this ranking is used from tier lists from different times in this thread's history(I know of 3 massive times this threads gone into best girl tier list ranking) taken into count, we can not only view this as a ranking of the most popular characters in F95zone, but also a possibility ranking of the most popular Lesson in Love events in F95zone.

This could explain why the confusion people had with Uta and other characters being ranked so high. I believe the selection bias in this game is very difficult to remove, as it is a ongoing game with a continuing narrative and with plenty of character events to still be played out. From what I'm seeing, people have really enjoy Rin and Yumi's events with other character thought to be unpopular rising up the ranks due to their events and how they're being written into the story being more and more enjoyable to read through, or more spine-chilling to read.

Of course I'm not 100% sure of this, as I'm couldn't be sure how Touka and Sara would be ranked so high if it wasn't for the community really liking the characters, their events, and their designs(Big fan of Touka myself).

Someone else smarter than me could probably figure out that out and poke holes in what I mentioned but it's a interesting thought that might lead to the discussion of the recent quality of characters events to hold us over until D-Day.

The only thing I couldn't confirm is how old the tier list data is, it seems like it's been taken over a course of 4-5 months, starting from December 2024.

Some are almost 2 years old. Like mine:
Did a Tier List thingy:

It's more of a "who I find more interesting at the moment", list, tbh.
Didn't count my extras...Also, things have surely changed.

I did make a Harem Tierlist more recently, but I doubt that counted:
The mentioning of a Harem Tierlist, had me interested. Here's my take on most of the characters when it comes to relationships, in Chapter 4:
