Patreon is what's taking it so long, I guess because of characters like Ami, Miku, Sana, etc. I am calling it now, next is going to be because they wear school uniforms and are said to be high schoolers, then it's going to be the 'happy' scenes are too graphic. In other words, I could very easily see Patreon taking issue with most of the game over time. I can't wait to see their response to the first caracter death, assuming Selebus ever even planned to go the usual Denpa route and kill off certain characters at certain points based on decisions. Patreon would lose their freaking minds.

It's not totally their fault. I'm sure they'd prefer to not meddle, because it's less work and more money for them. The issue is that they support PayPal, and PayPal has a lot of stringent rules about what sorts of sexual material is permitted for use with the platform -- SubscribeStar doesn't support PayPal, which is why they can be way laxer with their rules. And the reason PayPal is so anal about it is because of FOSTA/SESTA, laws which the US Congress passed in 2018 that were intended to clamp down on sex trafficking but which ended up harming a lot of legitimate sex workers and pornographers, because it creates tons of legal liability for payment processors if it turns out they helped process payments for ~bad stuff~. This is why, for instance, PornHub and OnlyFans no longer support PayPal.

tl;dr: Companies usually aren't jerks because they have a deep desire to be jerks, but because they are responding to their incentives.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but as Selebus progresses deeper into the actual story of Lessons in Love, even the "safe" aspect of it, won't it still be banned off patreon? Isn't there heavy implication that Sensei raped his sister in law? Not to mention Ami. I feel a lot of the pre-time loop stuff is going to have to be changed up to keep everything "kosher" for patreon once we get further into the story.

I mean, if he's thinking that far ahead, then he deserves serious applause, that is a level of forward thinking most developers don't do because they typically don't have to.

I just wanna play as a high school literature teacher trying to cover his yearly syllabus, not some pervy game about frolicking with young ladies in class. Remember Jesus is watching.

If he patched out the happy scenes, he'd literally have to start the entire story over again from scratch, and basically start the premise of the game from scratch as well. As the story is tightly woven in the happy scenes. That's where most of the background lore is built. Not to mention the 3 possibly 4 gods, the users, the blackouts, the half the interactions with all the girls, etc.

Edit: It's nowhere near as easy as you think. He'd basically have to work from the ground up on everything.

Indeed, though like stated before, he may have already planned to strip those out of the censored version, which is pretty good foresight, while Subeles maintains them in the totally unaffiliated uncensored version.

That still doesn't eliminate all the problems with Ami as she is also likely considered underage by Patreon as is any other girl that just so happens to be small or flat chested and short. This would only fix censor the literally one case of incest, at least the only one I can think of.

Exactly, if Patreon ever cracks down on the 'happy' scenes for whatever reason, I just HOPE they give him a chance to fix censor it instead of terminating his page without warning. It would mean basically stripping out the story and starting from square one, but maybe Selebus already has a strategy here to deal with that possibility in the censored version.

Considering his development on the original to this point, yes, I do believe there is a strong chance, but not a guarantee, that he took into account the possibility that Patreon might try to censor other portions of the game that, while not originally mentioned in what we know of the problems Patreon had this time, could be a problem later. I do indeed believe that the Patreon safe version will have its 'happy' scenes cut due to how he mentioned he was going to change it. I don't believe that those scenes would fit very well with the image he tried to give us of the Patreon safe version. The 'happy' scenes, while not sexual in nature, are definitely not all ages scenes and could even scar a kid for life. Seriously, this game was meant for adults for a reason and it wasn't just the sex. Some of us adults can handle stuff like that, but most kids can't and their highly maleable minds could take on some lasting trauma if they see something like that. Not to mention that some of the 'underage' characters have variants in the 'happy' scenes anyway, some of which appear less than fully clothed. I do believe Maya to be one of the targets for the "underage characters" portion of the issue and she does have Amiokay girl, who does have several fully naked appearances throughout. I would assume Patreon would count them as the same because they are essentially identical even though they may or may not be the same character in canon.

I can't wait for the Patreon complaint that the girls aren't fully covered from the neck down, wearing chastity belts, and keeping their hair covered. Patreon is getting more puritan annually and some people have predicted they will just throw out NSFW allowance on their site entirely at some point, a prediction I don't exactly disagree with.
